Which comes first: customers or employees?

Which comes first:  customers or employees?  That is a catch 22 or chicken or the egg question?

Do you have a great company because you attracted a great talents who produced superior products and served customer needs well?   Or did the customer patronize you and you grew producing more  profits and attracting great talents?  But great companies who have lost their edge like Nokia, Radio Shack find themselves losing employees.   Just like rats jumping off sinking ships (and they know when the ship is sinking)

The advice is, when there is catch 22 situation, to to do both?!
