NU12 by Andrew Chua - #9 Alarming Alarm Clock
NU12 by Andrew Chua - #9 Alarming Alarm Clock
A lot of people are having a hard time to wake up in the morning. Even alarm clocks are sometimes useless especially for those people who are immune to the sound of it. I am one of those people who don't wake up easily, even from the sound of an alarm clock. Probably, one of the reason is that I am living in a noisy environment. I live along the main road of our area and there are a lot of vehicles pass by such as jeepneys, trucks, tricycle, etc.
One of my proposed solution to this is an alarm clock that would awaken your other senses. In the movies, we can see exaggerated solution such as an alarm clock that would squirt water or that would trigger the release of a bucket of water above you. My solution is simple, an alarm clock that would release a scent that would smell like your favorite breakfast since there are a lot of people who would be awaken from the smell of it. The best part of this is that instead of your body pulling you back to go to sleep, the smell would make your body go up and you will be completely awake. 4
NU12 by Andrew Chua - #6 Portable Gas Station
NU12 by Andrew Chua - #6 Portable Gas Station
What do we usually do to maintain our cars? We do regular cleaning, repairs, and refilling of consumables. We don't have time to wait for repairs, that's why we usually leave them at repair shops. For car washes, we now have car wash boys at mall parking areas using portable car wash equipment. When we think of consumables; we usually think of engine fluid, brake fluid, and power steering fluid. But the most time consuming refilling of consumable is the gasoline or diesel. I can still remember several times, wherein i was already late for work and school but i still have to go to the gasoline station.
I think we should have portable gas refilling equipment in mall parking areas also. It can be done after the car owner leave, and paid after he comes back. Trust wouldn't be much a problem, since many car owners are leaving their cars to car valets. If they trust the car valets not to damage or siphon gasoline out of their cars, I think they would also trust gas refilling boys with their cars. Also, I think safety wouldn't be a concern, since there are already a lot of gasoline and diesel in the parking area inside the hundreds of cars parked there.
With the portable gas station, I would be able to save 10 minutes per week at the gas station, and 3 minutes per week for intentionally passing by the gas station. 4 (or gas station in mall parking lots).

NU12 by Andrew Chua – Public Transportation Map
NU12 by Andrew Chua – Public Transportation Map
When we drive our cars in the Philippines, we have three options when we don't know to get to our destination. The three options are: 1) ask anyone around us, 2) use a map, or 3) use a GPS (high-tech map). Only options 2 and 3 are reliable; while option 1 of asking around is not, especially if we ask strangers. But when we are using public transportation like buses and jeepneys, we only have one option; and that is option 1 the not so reliable option of asking around. Asking around for directions wastes a lot of time and money. For example, you can waste some time asking a friend because it's complicated to give directions. If your friend doesn't know it, you might need to go to the terminal to ask around. They also don't have maps at jeepney or FX terminals. But the worst part is when they give you inaccurate information. You will get lost and will need to ask around again.
I think that we should have a public transportation map for the country, just like in some other countries. This will save a lot of valuable time of millions of commuters. While a draft of the map will not be very hard to do, if we have the data of public transportation routes from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
I checked the web if someone has already the same idea, and I found out that we already have a public transportation map for Makati only (see link of the map below). It was done with the help of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 2004. But it was not expanded to other cities for the past eight years. I recommend that we should expand the project to the rest of Metro Manila. 4
