NU12 #4 - Anti-Carnapping/Theft Stunner by Rhea G. Jardin
We all know that carnapping is very rampant in our society. If your car is not stolen, most of the times the valuable items or even parts of your car will be the one stolen. Although most of the cars already have sirens or alarms attached to them, some thief and carnappers still have ways of disarming them. And the only thing that these alarms could do is to create very loud and annoying sounds but in reality, it does not have a way of capturing those criminals. If ever that the criminals are apprehended, your cars have already been sold and could no longer retrieved.
With these in mind, I thought of having an anti-carnapping/theft stunner. This device will be quite similar to the alarms that we attach to our cars for protection which we can switch on or off. Although this device does not come only with the loud sounds but will also give a stunning effect that would temporarily paralyzes the criminal just in time for the law enforcers to apprehend the suspect and, once and for all, detain them.4
The device will be situated in the door handle of your car which is not visible to the thief. As soon as he touches the door handle to unlock it, he will be stunned, or a low voltage electric shock will be released, just enough to have him paralyze for a few minutes. As soon as this happens, you can turn off the device for your safety and could call the enforcers for immediate assistance. In this way, the criminals would finally be apprehended and detained so as not to commit another crime, and at the same time your car is safe.
The device could also be place on different parts of your car where the thief could possibly use to gain access like the windshield, trunk, hood, and even on the mug wheels of your vehicles.

NU12 - Idea#1: Rhea G. Jardin
“What pisses you off at the neighborhood? What do you suggest?”
Garage Parking
The neighborhood that I will sight in my first NU12 is in Ayala Housing
in Mandaluyong where I previously lived for 3 years. It is a small
subdivision situated along Barangka Drive and I was told that it was
originally developed by the Ayala’s that is why it was named after them.
What piss me off that subdivision are the cars that were parked along the small streets of the subdivision which makes it difficult for other cars to pass by. Having lived there for 3 years, I observed that most houses in that subdivision were built with garage. With that observation, I wondered why those people still parked their vehicles in front of their houses along the small street. The reason for that is because their garage, that was supposed to be used as parking area for their cars, were converted to either a sanctuary of different plants or was used as an extension of their living room.
I have nothing against what they did with their garage, after all it is their private property and they have the right to do whatever they want with their properties. But my point is that somehow, they should have allotted a space in their garage for their vehicles to park on so that they would not invade the streets that were constructed for the benefit of the public.
My suggestion for this problem would be for the subdivision’s homeowners association to strictly implement the no parking policy of vehicles along the street and create a tow away zone in order to teach those car owners who habitually parked their vehicles along the street. They could also install a sensor with a built in timer that monitors the number of minutes that the car is parked in the street which has an automatic siren that alarms if the car has been parked more than the allowable time.
On the part of the residents, the owners of these cars should have a social awareness and concern on the hassle that they bring to other residents of the subdivision. In the first place, they should not have acquired a vehicle if they could not provide a proper parking space for it. 3
