NU12 New Footwear, fancy boots by Campus Queen

Fancy Boots
Campus Queen
MBAH 10B

I always want to travel light everytime I go somewhere. But not to the extent of  bringing only  2 pairs of shoes especially in cool places. Why not invent boots with adjustable heels? Make them flat for long walk and add heels for a fashionable stride. Make it light weight so it's like walking barefooted. The height of the boots is also adjustable by placing additional leather material with velcro --make it ankle length, just below the knee or knee high. More importantly, the material of this walking gear should be waterproof and embedded with antibacterial and anti-fungal properties so your feet will stay fresh all day long!

NU IDEA # 11 e-FILE MANAGER AND SCHEDULER (e-FMS) by Vinca Rosea

dear prof,
the article was cut po....here's the complete article po:

NU IDEA # 11 e-FILE MANAGER
AND SCHEDULER (e-FMS) by Vinca Rosea
We wanted to cut down our need
for paper. But still in our office, I get a huge pile of paper notices of
meeting and minutes of meeting. Then these papers need to be filed in a folder
and eventually eat a huge space in the warehouse.  Paper memos eats space, kills trees and
creates more waste.

I hope our IT would be able to
maximize our office email and turn it into an office file manager and
scheduler. Each committee will be given a template for memos and a group will
be created where memos, minutes and notices of meeting are communicated.

If the associate is supposed to
attend a meeting, it will be automatically put in his calendar and all he has
to do is to accept or decline the invitation. If he cannot attend the meeting,
there is an option where he could send a representative. This scheduler will
aide us in managing our schedules and can also do reminders via SMS.

Notices and minutes of meetings
can now be paperless even the memos plus schedules are easy to manage through
the e-FMS!

NU 12- New Business Ideas: Surrogate for Hire by Highlander

NU 12- New Business Ideas: Surrogate for Hire by Highlander

Although Surrogacy is not yet legal in the Philippines. This is a potential money maker. There are many childless couples who want children and are unwilling to adopt. For one reason or another, these couples have problems getting pregnant.

One solution is a surrogate. Someone who will carry your baby for 9 months, deliver, turn over your baby to you without hassles or future impediments. These surrogates have a contract with you for services rendered, and will not hassle you in the future. A woman can make money this way, and specially the broker or company and for a certain fee will match the couple with the surrogate.  The broker or agency should have a roster of reliable surrogates for employment. And the agency will earn percentages aside from  a fee from the couples previously agreed upon, specially if the pregnancy has been successfully delivered.  < meron na po nito;  di lang hayagan, di lang sa sine>

You may find this weird or extreme. But hey, it is a business idea.

NU I2 - New Paradigm - Get Enough Exercise

NU 1 - New Attitude

Before my  husband's Coronary Artery By Pass Graft sometimes in 2007,  I was not  a health buff.  I ate anything be healthy or unhealthy foods, I don't exercise, I'm not that prayerful.  What happened to my husband was a wake up call for me and so with him.

After his successful surgery, everything changed.  I developed a new attitude towards a healthy lifestyle: diet, exercise, prayers.

a) Diet consists now of fish, white meat, vegetables and fruits, and less of carbohydrates.  It was a bit difficult adjusting to the dietary changes but my husband and I, including the household staff developed a new attitude towards a healthy diet.

b ) I became prayerful and always have time to pause and say thank you for the blessings I have received. Its an attitude being close to the Almighty.

c) Exercise is one activity that my husband and I developed an attitude of doing it routinely.  Sweating out every morning perks us up and makes us fell lighter.
We are now having  positive attitude on a healthy lifestyle by doing the exercise routine and so with other health enthusiasts whom we meet in daily walk in the city plaza.  We formed a group known as the Morning Bodies which is a sort of a walking club composed of about 50members from various walks of life ( professional, retired employees, vendors, housewives, students. Etc.)
The new attitude towards a healthy lifestyle makes a person getting better through the years.

Hold on..... my bladder!
If I can only hold my bladder for a few more minutes... hours. Yes,  I would rather wait until I get home. What an iiikkeee feeling to use restrooms that are not clean, foul smelling  and not well maintained. Restrooms must be ideal places to rest. Therefore I would vividly view a restroom facility as one with at least one set of sofa;  minimum of 5 toilet rooms, toilet are pearl white in color, a ledge on the back to place my personal  belongings, a covered garbage can, 3 rolls of pluffy toilet papers, sanitary napkins  and disposable underwears  available for use  (napkins, toilet paper and disposable undies are  locked-in cabinets in which keys are available any time with the housekeeping lady). In addition, there are 5 lavatory areas which are equipped with automatic faucets with both warm and cold water. Either a hand dryer or paper towels are provided and covered garbage cans are visible. This may seem so simple to implement  yet difficult to maintain. The set up can be provided  with the use of not so expensive materials and needs of a restroom. The more important factor is the proper usage of the restroom.  Therefore one's behaviour and attitude is that which counts, an attitude of DISCIPLINE which has been taught to me, to us since we were young. Discipline in the restroom are the following:  First discipline is to  be in line and what pisses me off is, when I am in a queue to use the toilet room and suddenly a lady cuts accross  and overtakes  without even a word . Second, those who use toilets  shall make it a habit to flush one (anyway you are not to be charged for the water) and what pisses me off is to see the toilet bowl dirty.  Third discipline, that all garbage, esp. toilet papers are thrown in the garbage can and not on the floor and toilet. Toilet papers clog the system and this pisses me off .   An attitude of discipline may not alone be the soultion,  injecting new ideas  may help  create an atmosphere of a clean and properly maintained rest room.  A green and red light with accompanying buzzing sound, built-in in each toilet room will   be a reminder.  After use of the toilet room, if one has used the toilet room properly, the green light will flash and the door will unlock. Howeveer if the toilet room was not propertly used, the red light will flash and buzz and the door remains locked. Hence this is an assurance of a clean toilet room after use. Regarding the queue, when one over takes, a whistling sound will be heard to signal that one has to be in line. I am sure this will work and...... I dont have to hold my
bladder anymore!       NU 12 (11)  What pisses me off at a restroom?   -   peaches

"Next Counter please"/ "Close"
I am one person who  values my time most. Whenever I go out especially on Sundays or on any  day of the week wherein  I either go to shop or for grocery I make sure that I know what I want and need  to buy. I therefore  have a list with me of  these things so that no time is wasted. This  idea sounds perfect and ideal. However i have realized that I can not control time  and have it as I wish. Reason:  the  sight of the long queue to the cashier. People are seen often crowded at  two or three cashier areas  for the reason of the  "next counter please" / "close" notice on  a number  of cashier's  table tops.  I frown at this and as often, I could not help but ask and I always get the same answer, "na ka break po".  I have no choice but to wait for my turn!
While waiting in the queue I thought of restructuring the cashier area and implement a process that would faciliate payment of all goods, shops procured in any one time that I/one  would like to pay. I vividly imagine  that there will be 15-20 cashier areas that will accomodate the settlement of all items procured. These areas will not be manned but will only be provided by sensored tables with two swipe machines. All I have to do is place all my procured items on the sensored table wherein the total amount to be paid will be shown. I will now have a personalized  procurement card which will be swiped in the two machines, wherein the first swipe will reveal if my card is valid  and it's corressponding balance which if in order will automatically debit the said amount due. The second swipe will reveal the remaining balance. This way I can monitor my card. This system will not in a way need cashiers, cashiers who are  "na ka break po".  It will be convenient for all customers because all cashier areas will be working therefore lessen queueing and I don't have to bring cash. There will however be a bagger to assist customers in  placing    bought/shopped  items on the sensored table and  packing.  Oh what a relief because I can be sure to lessen my waiting time and therefore  make sure not to extend my hours in the shop and grocery.   I'll be home in time to cook deliciously, rest and give my family quality time.

Radioooooooo..  Please lower the volume!
It is a strict policy in the village where I live that Sundays and Holidays are non working days for constructing houses for the obvious reason that homeowners stay in their houses. It is that these days are considered real rest days and what a good feeling to stay in bed for another hour or two without hurrying to dress for clinic and prepare the children for school. A nice day to experience the deafening silence in the wilderness of my home away from the busy metro.  However because of a house being constructed in the neigborhood, right infront of our house,  the carpenter who watches the house seems not to care at all as he listens to his radio in rock music at full volume. Oh what a Sunday!
Yes,  one ring to the security can stop that music. It is their responsibility to call the attention and warn  whoever takes care of the house but that ring to the security will mean I have to get up from bed.
I may sound cranky and selfish depriving care takers of houses under construction in the village of something that may keep them company , their radios. That is not my point, I understand their situation. The only concern is to lower the volume!
It may sound simple and easy but warnings come and go. I seem tempted at times to go straight to the care taker to ask them to shut up the radio but I still can hold on to my patience and a bit of kindness. But two, three or four times pissed me off!
Solution:  May I suggest that all houses under construction will be provided radios by the homeowners association. These are special radios which will only function with the use of an earphone hence such radios are non functional without earphones! Great Idea!  Soundless!  Volumeless! Now I can sleep soundly ...... "ZZZ-zzz-ZZzzz" .......  to my heart's delight and can't wait for Sundays and Holidays!

Beeepp  Beepp.... No more!
I was in the province when at age  16 I had my first driving lessons, I use to tell my father that once I learned how to drive, I will drive for him. I was excited too and looked forward to the day when I can drive by myself.   At age 24 after my Med proper,  I resumed  and practiced my driving skills and with all confidence and determination, I  successfully learned how to drive. I finally got my driver's license.
I realized the advantages of knowing how to drive esp. when I started my practice as an Obstetrician Gynecologist beacause I have to go to 4 clinics in a row a day, I have to deliver and operate on my
patients in different hospitals and make daily rounds too. When I had  my children, I can  bring them to school and to their regular pedia check up. Well, all these I can perform and have to honestly say that this was when I was younger. As years went on, I realized the risk and stress of driving. Well not that my reflexes had waned but  I have observed the increase in volume of cars, jeepneys, buses, trucks, even pedicabs, tricycles, motorcycles, bicycles  and a lot more. At the same time the population of pedestrians has  also increased in number.  I am aware that this volume both in the number of vehicles and pedestrians are  uncontrollable. I even don't know if the number coding helps?  I am really pissed off  with the increase in volume of vehicles because each one vehicle wants to go first hence  different vehicles go anywhere, cut, overtake, stop,  in different directions. Pedestrians too are observed to be almost on the road and the funny thing  is I have to try to avoid them...  Beeeppp.. Beeepppp..  and not  them to try to avoid me. Well, as we say, ONLY in the Philippines!  But Am I hopeless?  Can this ever be resolved?  Strict Discipline? It doesn't only work that way.  My new Idea,  what if  sensored lanes/road are created wherein each vehicle and pedestrian is suppose to stay only in their  designated lanes. What happen if they don't?  There will be some kind of vehicle and human  electrocution but it will be  harmless .  They are  stuck there for a while and this will have  corressponding cash  penalty which they have to deposit in a built-in device anywhere in the road. Only after they deposit said amount, will they be able  to move their vehicle and themselves. Seems this will require a different technology but possible in due time..... and no... Beeeepp...Beepppp will ever  be heard!

 Skyway... tollway...highway....
I am aware that sky ways were made to shorten my travel time and probably travel in a highway with not much cars, i mean no traffic in a way that I can have my own lane. The actual travel time from alabang to magallanes takes only about 12 minutes compared to approximately 20-30 minutes when I use the SLEX. One way costs Php 164.00 which is the main reason why the sky way is not chosen. Personally I choose this way for the main reason that I don't get stressed  (driving nor for my driver) and believing that chances of getting involve in an accident will be less. My gasoline too will take a long way.
Satisfied with the first year of using the skyway, lately I noticed an extended travel time. Reason: The toll booths which are supposed to handle cash payments are taking time before vehicles are allowed to go /enter the skyway for some reasons. I then decided to provide my car with an Electronic-pass (E-pass) obviously  for the purpose of using the epass lane wherein I dont have to pay in cash but use a sensor that would automatically allow the car to pass. However it does not happen that way because of the toll barrier  which initially blocks the way for E-passers and will only let go of vehicles after the sensor made sure that vehicles E-pass's is valid. Therefore it takes a while to enter the sky way. Worse is when E-passeres forget to load their E-pass.
It really had made a great difference that we had the sky way but I suggest that all vehicles who use this way are given the worth of their money. I gave the following a thought:
* For E-passers, there will be an  Epass lane entry which will be highly sensored to allow only valid Epass holders. The sensor in each vehicle will then reflect the amount deducted  and corresponding balance after use of the Epass lane. Therefore there will not be any toll barrier  hence will allow a smooth and continous flow to the sky way. Definitely this process will shorten the travel and make one rersponsible in maintaining a valid E-pass because invalid E-pass's will be penalized . (Php 5000.00) This lane will not even need to be manned.
* For those who pay in CASH, it will be a responsibility to ONLY PAY exact amount. This will be a "PAY ONLY EXACT AMOUNT LANE".  Again there will be a penalty for disobedience.
I beleive that this process when implemented will entail discipline and responsibility to all drivers and  vehicle owners.  It will indeed  allow us to travel smooth, stress free and accident free.........    and never be pissed  off at any sky way, highway, toll way.

NU12 # 5 – Foot Shoe Massager Nurse Deedee

When I was started working as an OR nurse, I've experienced standing for hours while assisting physicians during an 8 hour operation. Now that I'm in the corporate world, fashion trends dictate that wearing high heeled shoes is needed to complete your corporate outfit.  On both situations, the pressure on my feet is just sometimes unbearable. Most of the time, I find myself wishing for that small comfort of having a foot massage, but who has time to do that these days?

This is my dream product for this dilemma!

Presenting… the Foot Shoe Massager!

The Foot Shoe Massager is a portable, lightweight shoe with a vibrating lining that massages not only the soles of your feet, but also your ankles and the sides of both feet.  It is equipped with lightweight, rechargeable battery, and features a lining that releases aromatherapy while in use.

You can slip off those high heels while sitting in your office and get that relaxing massage without messing up your schedule!

Our office provides services all over the world and we deploy engineers in different places and in varying durations. It is very hard for us and for the managers to track where a resource will be, when he will be coming back, etc.
We have an intranet site in the office and I asked to create a sharepoint site for our group and created a 'Travellers List' that states information like Name of Engineer, Country of Assignment, Departure Date, Return Date, Remarks, Contact Numbers Onsite, and Project End Date. This is list is constantly updated every time a new engineer leaves a country or returns home. Rebookings are also captured here. Since Sharepoint has a function for notification, we used the 'Alert me' feature to send an automatic reminder for those who will be returning or applying for a visa soon. In this case, we do not forget or miss any possible arrangement we might need to do for our colleagues.
Also, the site can be accessed by anyone whom we will grant access to so it can be shown to the concerned personnel. In this everyone can have easy access to data and can edit the data if necessary. Of course the changes can only be done by those who were given the contribute access. This has served to be very useful for a lot of people trying to contact the engineers, those needing to monitor their return dates, and generating a report on the current number of engineers outside of the country.

Ingenuity and common sense needed in everyday life

Ateneo Innovation and Entrepreneurship "New ideas create more and better new products and services; create more wealth."

Why have we not thought of that before?

There were two unsolved problems that bothered me: 1.  an unopened accidentally locked vault door in a provincial office - this would cost us several thousands, and no technician from the vault store was available. and a helmet strap that was cut in two places.  For a long long time, these remained unsolve.

Here are the surprising solutions:

1.  For the vault, an officer suggested that we use grinder to remove the hinge; this would cause the whole door vault cover to fall;   the hinge could be replaced later on. The contents were thus taken and used.  This was done only last week, after this being pending for more than a year.

2.  For the helmet, this was how it was repaired:  Repairing my Spyder Helmet  It would have cost me say P3,000 to buy  a new helmet.  Now it just cost me P48.00 of mighty bond glue and several minutes to do the repair, and make the helmet as good as new.

20/80 sales principle

Ateneo Innovation and Entrepreneurship "New ideas create more and better new products and services; create more wealth."

From Entrepreneur.com bookstore

The idea is gleaned from the 80/20 Marketing by Perry Marshall.  The foreword tells of the work of Tim Ferris who advocated the 4 Hour Workweek.   This is the one of the works on the "Principle" of results based living.  You can work less and have happier and fuller life.

Your best customer are your existing customer.  If you can sell more to them, then your work will be less and you results will be more.

Some sad truths:    only 6% of the countries of the world own the wealth;

of the 10 richest person in the world, the top 3 has the most;

80% of the results come from just 20% of the performers;  it pays to hire the very best performer

It is not the normal bell  distribution curve.  It is the long tail...

Elon Musk Hyperloop Wont be built in California

Ateneo Innovation and Entrepreneurship "New ideas create more and better new products and services; create more wealth."

Repost from Entrepeneur.com | by Rey Hennessey | August 13, 2013

The author believes that the Hyperloop, an idea of Elon Musk, a billionaire CEO of Tesla,  a transportation system that will cut SF LA trip to only 30 minutes, cant be built any time soon.  It will take at least decade.  Regulatory approvals, unions will hamper/delay the project and may decade to build.  California has been ranked as one of the worst place to do business by Chief Executive Magazine

Henessey suggests that it built in Texas instead, say between Austin and Dallas, a distance of only 200 miles (vs SF to LA of 380 miles)

California may be home to Google and Paypal (which are not brick and mortar business) but approving a transportation project in California?....

TPO and Solar leasing

Repost from Green Energy in the PHL | May 24, 2013

For as early as 2010, TPO (Third Party Ownership) and leasing was a non existent industry.  Thanks to 2 Stanford graduates (Stanford has a lot of contribution to technology and innovation) who founded SunRun, TPO is now an industry practice and standard.  It enabled increase uptake on solar ownership in USA.

The duo of Lyn Jurich and Ed Fenster  found out that the 3 major obstacles to PV ownership was:   money, money, money.  Therefore the solution was to finance the ownership through leasing and third party ownership

NU 12- New Spending Habits/ Routine by Highlander

NU 12- New Spending Habits/ Routine by Highlander

Be Kind to Yourself.

I am a woman who hates to shop! Yes, that's right. I was brought up by frugal parents, not to mention my Scottish heritage. So we pretty much don't let anything go to waste.

My Spending Habits:

  • I wear dresses that I've had for the past 5 years
  • I wear hand-me-downs
  • When I shop, I have a specific item in mind to buy. Once I purchase it I get out of the mall.
  • My bed is old which I've been using since I was 5 years old. It doesn't help my back, since I have already had spine surgery done.
  • I used to drive a second hand car, I purchased from my father's estate.

I've pretty been frugal with myself. My husband has told me time and again that I deserved better.
Finally, when I turned 40 I rewarded myself for my hard work and giving myself my due. I realized I should treat myself better. So, I went out and bought my dream car as a 40 year old present to myself. I also bought an orthopaedic bed for my back, my comfort & better sleep.

I have not been ostentatious. My spending habits are very practical. I buy what I need. And I buy quality. I buy "Value for Money". But what is new? I give better value to myself, and buy what I need and the same time being kind and rewarding myself.  3

NU 12- New Product/ Improvement Peanut Flavored Rat Killers by Highlander

NU 12- New Product/ Improvement on Rat Killers
by Highlander

Peanut Butter Rat Killers! (Say What?!) When I tell people on how to best kill rats, they do a double take look at me as if I were crazy.

But it works! I've done it, tried it! This is not for the faint hearted.
And this has been proven (by me) to work best on rat infestation.
I'm not talking about mice, but rats as big as kittens or even bigger.

What to do:

Mix your rat Killer powder or granules with PEANUT BUTTER! Place enough  peanut butter to cover the colour and traces of your rat killer and place it on a slice of bread. Leave it out in areas of your home where you know the rats paths are.

Make sure there are no children about that might accidentally eat the bread!

The Peanut Butter masks and attracts the rats.
Within the next 2 weeks, you will start finding dead rats.

TEACHERS GOT TALENT
We've been hearing that thousands of experienced Filipino teachers leaving the country to work abroad because of poor working conditions, a dim chance of career advancement, low salaries, too much work.  Hence, a generation of school children is left behind hungry for quality education.  On the other hand, children who belong to well-to-do families are getting bored in class.  Thanks to their exposure to the sounds and vivid graphics of today's video games and TV shows.
What can we do to address both problems?  Well what about having a nationwide search for the best teachers in the country just like Pilipinas Got Talent or Talentadong Pinoy?  Students from all over the country can join by submitting a 30 to 45-minute video of their favorite teacher as he/she conducts his/her classes.  All videos submitted will be evaluated by a committee composed of educators from DEPED, professors of top universities in the country, and entertainers.   The number of winners will depend on how many subjects are being taught in school.  Top ten teachers will be selected for each subject. The ten finalists per subject will be in a reality TV show compelling teachers to showcase their best.  Criteria for selection will include:  student impact (teachers should be able to get students attention and make them learn a given subject); enthusiasm in teaching; content; delivery of teaching material among others.  The committee will select a winner for each subject.  The winning teachers will be professionally videotaped for a year in their actual classrooms while they are teaching. To make it more interesting for pre-schoolers or grade school students, professional video game creators, graphic artists will be tasked to make the videos into DVDs and incorporate sounds and visual effects which will make everything more interesting for our target market.  The final result will be a collection of DVDs with all the subjects taught in a more interesting and innovative way.
So, the next time a school will lack teachers, DEPED will make sure that TV sets are available for the school children to learn their lessons using the DVDs.  4

How the tower of world's tallest building was erected?

Ateneo Innovation and Entrepreneurship "New ideas create more and better new products and services; create more wealth."

I saw at Discovery channel two night ago how the world's tallest building was constructed at Dhubai. They encountered a lot of problems, but each time the Engineers came up with  brilliant solution.  The toughest problem was how to erect the l00 ft pylon at the top of the building.   The pylon could not be erected by crane:   there was no crane capable of erecting at that level, and the helicopter could not be steady enough to hold the crane in place for erection because of the high winds.

Their solution?  To erect the tower from within the building.

They cut the pylon into three sections which could be bolted.  The three sections were jacked up and bolted.

After the erection was completed, the workers and the engineers clapped at their own ingenuity and achievement.

Amazing!

How a tooth-brushing accident inspired an entrepreneur
Kavita Shukla got the inspiration for her business at just 13 years old, when her grandmother gave her a mix of herbs and spices to ward off illness after she drank unsafe tap water. She drew on that incident when she created FreshPaper, which is designed to keep food from spoiling. Entrepreneur online (4/5)

Are you answering questions or actually solving problems?
Good bosses know that to serve customers and co-workers, solving a problem starts with providing an answer, but the effort can't end there, says Andy Mills, president of Medline Industries. "A lot of people might think they're doing a job by giving an answer. But I really don't believe that simply giving an answer is doing your job, because if the answer doesn't help move something forward or help the business, then what good was that answer?" he explains. A question that can help you decide whether to pivot
Early in your startup's lifespan, it can be difficult to determine whether you should stay on your current course, modify your approach or shut down completely, David Teten writes. A sign that you should keep going is that you recently have been able to recruit a new employee, client or investor with no previous relationship to your business to become involved. Otherwise, it might be time for a change, he writes. Forbes (4/5)
