MBAH NU 12 by Cebpac - What pisses you off at the neighborhood

NU 9 -What pisses me off in the neighborhood?
                        by: CEBPAC

I'm living in the residential area in our city where garbage  collection has no fixed schedule. The common practice of the residents in the area is to bring their garbage out of their houses at night.  But what pisses me off in the morning are the  garbage scattered in the street while I'm having my morning walk.  Dogs, cats, and scavengers have been fighting at night to get something out of the garbage.
What should have been done?
1.  Report to the baranggay council in charge for garbage collection to adhere to the schedule set.
2. Advise residents not to put their garbage out of their homes at night. Doing so will be penalized.
3. There must be garbage prompter announcing ahead that garbage will be collected at specific time so that residents will be ready to have their garbage out.
4. Educate residents of waste segregation, or practice recycling.

MBAH NU 12 IDEA#12 HAIR PILLOW by Vinca Rosea

NU IDEA#12   HAIR
PILLOW by Vinca Rosea

Hair is one of the fastest
growing tissues in the body. When summer starts to heat up, cutting one's hair
is one of the things that comes to our mind to help freshen us up. For others,
just like me, trimming the hair is one of my outlets when I am stressed. But
what happens to our hair once cut? Salons would definitely throw it to waste.
Imagine how many tons of cut hair is thrown per day and across the globe.

To help minimize waste, hair
salons can make pillows out of the cut hair of their customer. It will be for
free if they selected one of the basic plain colours where their cut hair can
be placed and sealed. The size of the pillows will depend on the volume of cut
hair.
However, the salon will also offer a wide range of pillow designs and the customer may even have an option for
the salon to contain their hair for a one year period and will collect
subsequent cut hair then make a huge pillow. For those who will opt to have it
stored and choose a specially designed pillow, they will have to give
additional payment. 4

MBAH NU IDEA # 11 e-FILE MANAGER AND SCHEDULER (e-FMS) by Vinca Rosea

NU IDEA # 11 e-FILE MANAGER
AND SCHEDULER (e-FMS) by Vinca Rosea
We wanted to cut down our need
for paper. But still in our office, I get a huge pile of paper notices of
meeting and minutes of meeting. Then these papers need to be filed in a folder
and eventually eat a huge space in the warehouse.  Paper memos eats space, kills trees and
creates more waste.

I hope our IT would be able to
maximize our office email and turn it into an office file manager and
scheduler. Each committee will be given a template for memos and a group will
be created where memos, minutes and notices of meeting are communicated.

WHAT PISSES YOU IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD? WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST?
Walking through my neighbourhood in P Tuason, Cubao  is a smooth walk inspite of a busy street. Sidewalk is seen in both sides but obstructed by garbages, permanent structures, barangay outposts and the likes. People walking would swerve around the obstructions. Isn't it that these sidewalks are meant to be walkways for people to walk through and not use the main road? So, what are to do?
Maybe if roads are wider then these walkways can be widened. This will give space for the houses/buildings to have ample area to do what they want. Garbages can be placed inside the house or kept in containers that would limit the stench from coming out. The sidewalks can have flat surfaces giving a chance for the disabled people on wheelchairs to access these areas. Tahanang Walang Hanggan, is near our area and I think that this will help them a lot. Planning is an important component in building structures and roads. Of course, what I can say is that these roads and pavements are unplanned, reflecting the dilly dally thinking of individuals involved in road construction and what else, our local officials. So here's to the local elections …… hope things will be more planned than before.

NEW BUSINESS IDEAS
Every budding entrepreneur always has to think of what kind of business one can they delve into. Profit is the usual end rule. However, to have this, one has to survive the cutthroat competition out there. Having a new business idea would seem to be great but one has to have qualities which can sustain the business. The business should be of interest and liking of the proprietor. It has to be unique or something with a twist. It has to have value for money.
Walking through the streets and even when one is alone, then new ideas may set in.  Meeting up with old friends and new friends may also start the beginning of a business venture.  All these things are easy to say but the most difficult thing in starting the business is saying that one will start the business now.

NEW PRODUCTS
Sustenance is the key to maintain a business. However, people may have the tendency to tire out in the usual thing that businesses have to offer. This is where new products have to be developed in order to sustain interest from the consumer. This may or may not be related to the existing business but it should spark inquiry and tickle the fancy of the client. It may come from new ideas or maybe an innovation of what is existent. Product development and discovery are two issues that a creative and good entrepreneur should put his mind on. This makes him different from others. Sad to say but not all is gifted into having this. This has to be something innate or maybe with a person's exposure into the business, then can be developed.

NEW PROCESSES AT WORK
For one business to work properly, it has to be one well-oiled machine. But sometimes, we have to introduce new work processes which can disrupt the routine. It has to be injected in such a manner that it would blend easily. The path to success is to make decisive activities. This would mean that when an input is done then an output is its endpoint and the things in between is the work process flow that should be detailed in.
Let me share with you an experience in the hospital emergency room.  We follow guidelines and algorithms in its flow. When one adopts this into his hospital workplace, this might be different from one hospital and to another. As one incorporates this into his environment, then changes may set it like it may not adopt to the workplace environment he is in. As things are adopted and designed into his flow, then the work efficiency may become better.

PROFESSIONALISM
One would wonder what professionalism would mean. Each and every individual has their own definition of this word and may be applied into different areas but I think that this would very much be appreciated in the workplace. "Professionalism is, rather, a set of internalized character strengths and values directed toward high quality service to others through one's work. In their daily work, whatever it may be, real professionals show these inner strengths and attitudes."  Do we see this in those that we see in work? At the hospital? Do we see our bosses as one? Our teachers? Our doctors? Our secretaries? Our janitors? Regardless of one's line of work as long as you are doing your job, more than what is expected, then you can be labelled as a professional.
The character and values of professionalism are developed in childhood and then strengthened in adulthood through study, training, and work experience. This means that young people can call themselves as professionals – earning the respect of all who work with them .  A college diploma is not necessarily a passport to being called a professional but it is the character within that makes one a true professional.

SUCCESS AND CAREER
Success in one's career does not necessarily mean great fame and big money. Every individual has their own measure of success.  James Stenson, an educational consultant and the author of Parent Leadership has defined what  real success comprise of. He states that, "Real success in work and life would mean: (1) being able to support yourself and your family comfortably (2) waking up in the morning and looking forward to the day's work (3) earning the respect of everyone who knows you: family, friends, bosses, subordinates, neighbours (4) seeing your powers and skills work toward the betterment of others (5) enjoying leisure pursuits thoroughly because you've earned them."
I do believe in these things that he mentioned but what is lacking is achieving good health and strength in one's faith. This completes the picture of what success and career should be.  Then, I can go to sleep soundly and wake up the next day with a great new stride.

WHAT I HATE MOST ABOUT ATENEO

It is very hard to give a negative comment to a school which has been and still is a part of my weekly responsibility. Ateneo to the common Filipino is perceived to be an elitist school. Students normally come from the top schools of the land and usually come from the cream of the crop. However, if one has been immersed in the curriculum, being an elitist is a personal decision.

Another thing that I hate is the tuition fee is quite steep, especially if one comes from an average income family. I only hope that the tuition fee will be more affordable, most especially to all so as to give more opportunities to the average income earner.
I hate Ateneo because it is quite far from our house. At least, I am just obligated to go there once a week. Knowing that traffic is such a common sight, it would have been better if it was closer to my house. Maybe, having school at home via video conferencing/teleconference is very much open.  However, I have classmates living in farther provinces, riding the airplane just to go to Manila. This just shows how dedicated and sincere students are in this progressive school.

TRAFFIC IN EDSA
Honk, honk…… weeee…… screech…… Boooogggg….  Beep beep….. These are sounds that we usually hear along the streets of EDSA. It is such an effort to drive along EDSA most especially during peak hours of traffic and even during rainy days. The buses and taxis moving left and right warrants that drivers be good at defensive driving. I remember in the 70s and early 80s, driving to Makati will take me only 15 minutes from Mandaluyong. Though buses abound, I only see the Love Bus signs along the streets. Traffic was tolerable and crusing at 60-80 mph was not an effort even during peak hours. I remember my father bringing me to UP at 40mph was no problem and I will be the one embarrassed since we were driving quite slowly then.
Now, things are more different. The streets are more congested even during wee hours and more so during peak hours. Driving at 60-80mph is already magical and mind boggling and thrilling..... Why so? More cars? More populated urban area? Roads not well maintained? Drivers not tolerant and sensitive to cars nearby. Is it population that is causing this or is it the attitude of drivers.  Maybe, even population control and control of acquisition of new cars can help resolve the issue of traffic congestion or car pooling. Maybe, planning of construction of roads and repair can be done I do hope that the traffic in EDSA will be resolved one of these days… Everyone will be happy.

MBAH NU-12 (12) by Sherwinism - Art and Health

“SINING AT KALUSUGAN”

AGSB MBAH 10-B
Entrepreneurship NU-12 (12/12)
Category: Sustainability
By: sherwinisms

I have been doing social development work in health for almost 5 years now. Our main thrust is on leadership and governance and how it would help influence and drive the local health system to be able to address the needs of their community. Below is a figure representing the triangulate of intervention in a local health system.
In this triangulate, the gap still remains in the Demand Side which is actually the Health seeking behavior of the community. The only existing intervention in this dimension is the “Intensified Education Campaigns”. No other interventions are being done in this dimension.

With several consultations done among different stakeholders in the community, the idea came up of engaging the community in health dialogues. Looking at the situation, there had to be a way by which we could touch on every person’s “inner feel”.

In rural areas, the holding of fiestas and theatrical shows are very big events and were very much welcomed by the community. This became the jump off point of the idea of using the arts in encouraging health dialogue and promoting health.

The new idea is the formation of art guilds in municipalities which shall be trained on basic theatrical arts including music and drama. Alongside this are details of common health issues within their municipalities.

The main concept of “Sining at Kalusugan” will be to train a team knowledgeable on basic health concepts of basic health issues and go from barangay to barangay and engage the people in health dialogue using theatrical arts as opening salvos to capture their attention and touch their inner feel. This would be local people also living in these areas and are thus familiar with the language and culture of the locals.

This would hopefully complete the cycle of strengthening all three dimensions and eventually bring about  vibrant and sustained local health systems. 3

Warning alarm on traffic lights...
Concept:
I thought of inventing a sounding alarm on traffic lights as warning to drivers that they should put their vehicle to halt.
At present, our traffic lights has numbers attached to it ( digital )... to remind us, drivers of how much time is left until the red light shows. But even if this is already existing and is being implemented, a lot of people still beat the yellow or red light, get caught in the middle of the road and violate the traffic rules being implemented by an officer on the street!!

Implementation and Benefits:
When the red light is about to set/ show, there will be a buzzer to sound like an alarm, aside from the yellow light warning and the digital counters. In this way, people will be more aware and alert once the yellow
light flashes. They will get ready to stop and the sound will awaken sleepy drivers to be more alert.... The sound, alarm or buzzer would mean STOP/ HALT the vehicle NOW...
In connection to the implementation, there will be less violations, less road/ vehicular accidents and more happy law abiding motorists...there will be more PEACE... 3

MBAH NU12 by Starbird - T shirt with audio

Subject: NU12

New product:
A t shirt with the face of the character saying its famous line. The face is embossed, has a chip inside with the recorded voice of the character such that when the face is pressed, it says the famous line of the character: eg. Fernando Poe Jr: “Kapag puno na ang salop dapat nang kalusin” or Rudy’s character saying:  “Trabaho lang walang personalan”. Actors from Hollywood, Bollywood, musicians, politicians etc may also be considered as long as they have that famous or at least interesting line.
If the recorded is not yet available, then a speech bubble may be used. A possibility in the future is a video on one’s shirt. 4

NU IDEA#8 Easier Wifi Access at school by Vlinca Rosea

NU IDEA#8   AGSB WI-FI ACCESS MADE EASY by Vinca Rosea
Our gadgets are upgrading fast and upgrading is a must. Cellular phones can get free internet access using Wi-Fi. As a student of AGSB, we are entitled to free Wi-Fi access but the
process is not as easy as 1-2-3. We cannot just connect with the Wi-Fi unless
we went to the IT personnel to register our device and gain access.

I suggest shortening this  process. If AGSB wants to control access and limit it to registered students,
they should design the access password linked to the student number + birth
date. The password will work only if the student has registered for that term.
This way, the student can easily remember his password and doesn't have to go
through the process of going to the IT personnel. He just needs to be enrolled
during that period. At the same time, AGSB is able to limit the access to
enrolled students only. 4

New products/ improvements - Shoes con driving slippers

Concept:
I usually drive with slippers on or barefooted. It is because shoes seem to distract me on my moves. And the heels of the shoes tend to block as i step on the brakes and gas/accelerator.
With the busy schedule I have, there are times when I forget to bring and prepare my shoes for the day's work. I usually go out of the house wearing my driving slippers already. One time, I had to do my daily rounds with patients and I realized I have no available shoes to wear inside the car.
I thought of inventing a shoes convertible into slippers by a snap of a button on it.

Implementation and Benefits:
When its time to drive, shoes will be changed to slippers to avoid slipping and accidents on driving moves. It becomes more practical, economical and convenient for me. Less clutter in the car and it also serves as a poka yoke to forgetfulness in bringing a separate shoes for the medical rounds.
I suggest different styles and colors for these to make it more fashionable and attractive. This could help the businessmen in their new products for profit.4
