NU 12 MBAH by blue tiger - what pisses me off at the school

LUNCH VENDO

Submitted to: Prof. Jorge Saguinsin

During my medical school days, I was always in a hurry to do things done because of the tremendous volume of reading and studying that had to be accomplished in a certain amount of time. We often had 3-5 exams in a day, and that means every “free” time is used for reviewing, even lunch breaks. So I was used to having lunch and snacks on the go, bringing food to the classroom and studying while having meals.

After more than 15 years, once again I find myself in the classroom, now in AGSB. And sometimes, because of the amount of assignments and readings that had to be done, there is really no time to spend for a regular lunch in the canteen. The long queue line in the single counter that serves rice and lunch alone will eat up most of the break time. So wouldn’t it be really convenient if there were a number of lunch dispensing vendo machines in the campus?

An ideal machine would have sandwich packs, and rice toppings packs etc. and drinks also. One uber hungry student can just go to the nearest machine, get the meal and return to the room in less than 5-10minutes. It is also expected to decongest the long lines in the canteen. 3

NU IDEA#8 Easier Wifi Access at school by Vlinca Rosea

NU IDEA#8   AGSB WI-FI ACCESS MADE EASY by Vinca Rosea
Our gadgets are upgrading fast and upgrading is a must. Cellular phones can get free internet access using Wi-Fi. As a student of AGSB, we are entitled to free Wi-Fi access but the
process is not as easy as 1-2-3. We cannot just connect with the Wi-Fi unless
we went to the IT personnel to register our device and gain access.

I suggest shortening this  process. If AGSB wants to control access and limit it to registered students,
they should design the access password linked to the student number + birth
date. The password will work only if the student has registered for that term.
This way, the student can easily remember his password and doesn't have to go
through the process of going to the IT personnel. He just needs to be enrolled
during that period. At the same time, AGSB is able to limit the access to
enrolled students only. 4

Graded glasses for  cellphone screen

Young and old people use cellphones.  For the young ones reading messages is not a problem but for older people it could be one because of poor vision secondary to presbyopia.  Have you noticed that people in their 40's need eyeglasses to read their messages? It is so bothersome to grope for your eyeglasses in your pockets, bags, or even in your heads in order to read  messages in your cellphones.

What I was thinking is to manufacture corrective or graded glasses for the cellphone screens.    Be it 100, 150, 200  (+) or (-) etc. prescription and just slip it on  your cellphone screen  with slide casing  and voila you can read messages clearly without groping for your reading eyeglasses. It will be so convenient for older people reading their messages using this gadget.

I have to ask the help of an ophthalmologist, optometrist and cellphone technician for this idea if it s feasible.  It may not cost that much in the production of the graded lens and the older people will benefit from it. So, not only reading glasses are prescribed for older people but also reading glasses for cellphone screens. 4

NU IDEA# 6 MBAH - implementation of the blackboard system of instruction

NU IDEA# 6 WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ATENEO BLACKBOARD? by Vinca Rosea

I find it tedious for a class to create a Yahoo group for every subject every semester just to have system of communicating. What happened to the Ateneo Blackboard? It was supposed to be the tool of the teachers and students to communicate and even to maintain files that could be shared by the professors and vice-versa.<we are enrolled in the blackboard but I and the class were not trained>
There are instances that messages pile up in our inboxes and worse moved to the spam folder which causes delay in receiving the information or even not being able to read it at all. The Ateneo Blackboard was supposed to address this concern.
It is time to fix the system to avoid miscommunication and stop the use of USB's that may infect the classroom PC's which becomes a strong culture media where other can also acquire the virus. 3 <I lost many lectures in the USB due to the virus,  the blog and embed codes  is an adaptation>

Samsung recently launched its newest addition to its Galaxy series… the Samsung Galaxy S 4… Watching the launch in NY live via live stream made it all the more exciting. Samsung just never fails to amaze me.

I have been using the Galaxy S 3 for almost a year now and it still never fails to amaze me and seeing the S 4 slowly being unveiled, application after application, I was just left in awe.

Then again there’s still room for some more innovative features. While a lot of new features were seen with the S 4, it was mostly for play and none for work. Having an office-based work, we are usually faced with presentations be it small or big groups. While I could already do most of my presentations in my S 3, during the actual meetings already, I still need to e-mail my presentation and retrieve it in a laptop, connect it to aprojector before I could actually present it. What if my Samsung Galaxy phone can directly project images in a wall for me to show? It could be presentations for work or of new pictures and videos shared with family and friends or games for personal fun and play.

Impossible? NOT… Amazing? YES… the S 4 just got better… the new SAMSUNG GALAXY S 5… 4

Summer is here again. Already we could feel the heat of the season. Even in the evenings the weather gets to be very humid during your usual night-out with friends, especially in open-air bars or while you are seated in non-aircon smoking areas. Sure there’s your favorite beer in sub-zero bottles or iced glasses, or your usual ice-blended cocktails, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a new treat?

A new summer cool treat which would blow your brains out… Alcohol based popsicle treats. Like the usual kiddie popsicles which we never get tired of, these would come in different colors and shades and of course in different flavors and alcohol based concoctions.

A truly fun way of beating these hot summer nights is with these cool summer fun treats… TIPSY POPS… now available at your favorite bars 4

VIRTUAL CARDIO-EXERCISE EXPERIENCE…

By: sherwinisms

It is so hard to get back in shape. Getting on cardio machines and finding the right stimulus is very difficult. Sometimes the music does it and at other times not.

It would be good if in gyms, we would have cardio machines (treadmills, steppers, stationary bikes) in virtual rooms with 360-degree screens. While in treadmills for example, one could run or jog and choose the scene that he/she wants, simulating an actual outdoor jog or run. Another example is while riding stationary bikes, you are surrounded by scenery of your choice again simulating an actual ride or being in a pack of riders at the tour de france with you beating Lance Armstrong and drug<dope free hahaha>-free at that. This would surely be a very stimulating ride. <there cyclo computers with such feature doctor;  some you tube videos of tdf could be adapted to PS>

Simulating an outdoor experience to stimulate the senses right in the comforts of a gym or your own home would truly be one hell of a calorie-burning cardio-exercise experience one could have. 3

NU12: New spending habits by Icey Queen - Reducing inventories

NU12: New spending habits By: Icey Queen
Over stocking of supplies is not totally bad. It depends on the type of supplies you either frequently use and consume  or seldom utilize.

Our previous manager left us with too much idle & slow moving inventories. To avoid such bad practice, we made a systematic monitoring of the consumables like oils, refrigerants & fast moving parts replacements , as well as those that are permanently attached to every machine that was rebuilt.

This new habit saved us a lot of time & money. This can also be applied in ones household if your pantry has a list of goods which you can categorize & monitor . So on your next grocery day, you would avoid stacking your pantry with too much supplies, and sometimes ending up with too much expired goods. 3

NU 12 New Process at Work by Dr Yes - Planning

NU 12 – NEW PROCESS AT WORK OR STUDY
ALWAYS LIST DOWN THE WORK TO BE DONE THE FOLLOWING DAY
It is not a standard procedure required by the employer that needs to be done by every person but, what is your impression of some people carrying with them a list of things to buy when they go to the supermarket? We can say that they are well organized, right? For a female that is not awkward but for a male like me, I find it very disturbing. Well I think if that characteristic or process for that matter is done by anybody he or she will also be saving time, effort, gas if the market is not within walking distance and of course money. No return trip will be needed for things that were not bought.
The same is true for every office workers, be a managerial position, supervisory down to the employees and all employed in an organization. The company will benefit because there will be increase in their output meaning better income as well as incentives. Time, effort and gas will also be saved if they are using machineries at work and will yield better pay.
As for students, I advise them as early as now to practice doing that process; for it will become a habit (a good one).3

NU 12 New Spending Habit by Dr Yes

NU 12
NEW SPENDING HABITS
Buy what you need and a little of what you want.
"Everything has its price". A phrase that once was what I always say to myself, that the day will come when I can get all what I wanted. We are not rich people who seem to get all their needs and all that they wanted plus more. We were just fortunate because our parents have worked hard enough all their life to provide for our needs and some of what we wanted. After my folks send me to school, supported me on having a family at a young age, and built a very strong foundation for me and my siblings, as well as for our own families, anyone can say that they should be very much contented on their retirement.

But retirement did not materialize as my mother still attends to her loyal patients. Our father and my two older brothers passed away few years back and it was them who used to manage the family business. Being the oldest among the three remaining offspring's now, our mother entrusted me the responsibility as administrator of the hospital. She said to me that the establishment is not only for the three remaining offspring's and she would be so very much happier if we can maintain the operation of the hospital for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

With that advice in mind I better be very cautious in what used to be happy go lucky attitude especially when it comes to spending habits, which is to buy what is needed and diligent self-control in getting what I want.  3

PROFESSIONALISM

Compassion in Dr patient relationship
Compassion – defined as sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it. This is a trait that every physician or any individual must have. It is the doctors' duty and responsibility to treat a person that has an illness causing him or her sickness because it is the nature of the profession. However as to what I think, the doctor-patient relationship or for any other relationship in general to work, each party must be compassionate to each other especially a doctor to his or her patient. It is to me the same as putting yourself into another person's shoes and wanting to do the exact opposite of what this person is going through and if not, at least better than what he or she is suffering from.  3

NU 12 New Product - Inhale free

BREATHE HEALTHIER

All living things in this planet in one way or another must breathe in order to survive. Human beings are the highest form of living creature known to all and are the most to benefit health wise if given a pollutant and germ free air. This may seem to be impossible and one may wonder how this could be done when we have no control of what are the particles we may inhale that are airborne. Be it pollution or germs and if we are to inhale it, the end result is illness and loss of function if a person is to get sick.

I am sure that all will agree with me when I say "prevention is better than treatment" and I am assuming that nobody wants to get sick. But how do we do this? What if we have an object that we can put into our nostrils, that can lasts for 12 hours that is so porous with regards to air flow and so light that we will not even feel that it is there? Breathing will be much healthier because we have the assurance that none of these airborne particles, be it germs or pollutant will ever cause us sickness. Yes it acts like a filtering object that traps air pollutants and germs making the inspired air very much cleaner for a healthier life.
You may ask what this object is. Well it is like a piece of gauze or like a mesh lined with broad spectrum antiviral / antibacterial that once in contact with these micro-organisms would immediately immobilize and prevent their capability of infecting an individual. This gauze or mesh will also inhibit pollutants from entering the respiratory system by trapping them once in contact with it assuring a cleaner if not the cleanest air inhaled. It will be called "INHALE FREE".  It is "free" because anything that is free easily catches ones attention. 4

NU#6: What pisses you off at the mall? Extreme types of sales personnel.
One of the favorite past times of Filipinos is going "Malling".  The funny thing is , in most malls, people literally go malling, as in go to the mall.  They just go around the mall, no intended shopping, if ever, they eat there and go around.  I don't know if this has any effect on the sales people, but I have observed different types of sales people's characters in the malls in general.  What irritates me the most when going to the mall, is the two extreme types of sales representatives.
First, is the passive sales rep.  Whether you have any intention to make a purchase or not, your presence in the store makes you a potential buyer.  It is their job to assist any buyer that comes in their store.  I don't know  whether they slept thought their orientation or it is merely their personality, but don't they at least wonder why they are standing in the store?  Isn't it to assist buyers?  So, why are there sales reps who just stand there, even if they see a customer lingering on an item, looking around with a perplexed look on their face.  Even worse, is when their attention is called, or are asked a question, they give you the most cold and unwelcoming response, as if they just want you to leave already.
Second, is the other end of the spectrum.  There are sales reps , which take too much pride and have so much passion in their work, that when there is a buyer, they put on a predator-prey mode.  They stick to you like a fly to flypaper to the point of total irritation!  I understand that they are suppose to be sort of a "at the becking call" to their buyers but picture this….. You're walking in a store, greeted by all sales reps as you enter (this is great), but when you stop at a certain item, you are entertained by one rep, this is still good….. what is not good is that when they start to gather around you, 8-9 or even 10 reps surrounding you, literally like a potential prey, picking on you, flashing items in your face, giving their sales talk all at the same time!  When this goes on for several minutes, you start to feel like you're drowning, and in a few seconds, all you want to do is run out of the store screaming!  (Yes this has happened to me several times).
I can think of one possible solution for both – Certified Training.  Sales Representation is an art in itself and skills must be developed continuously.  It may even be in house if it's too costly.  I am aware there are training available, but maybe ones highly specialized for their clients.  I don't know if this will help, but it is a first step, the next thing is careful selection or termination.  But this would mean encouraging buyers to complain or evaluate the staff. 3
