NU12# What pisses you off at the school? - (revised) Nelle Canta
"WHAT PISSES YOU OFF AT THE SCHOOL?"
Getting a masteral degree is not just for the title, especially for students like me, who pay for my own tuition. I enrolled in AGSB even if the tuition is more expensive than the other schools that offer MBA degrees. I know that I would get the value for money since if it's Ateneo, quality education is assured. Quality education means quality professors. It's disappointing when a professor doesn't actually teach, but he just pulls out his powerpoint slides and just read the content, without explaining it, without giving examples and worse, he doesn't even look at his students while he read the slides. I'm not sure if AGSB has certain guidelines for the professors' teaching outline. If there's none, I think AGSB should come up with a guideline for the professors. I suggest also that there should be a "spy" student who will take a video and report the professor if ever he/she reads the slides only. In this way, there would be an actual proof of the inefficiency of the professor. The proof will help the faculty to improve their teaching. 3.5 <there are standards for teaching and which this office strives hard to achieve>

NU12#4 NU 12 -New spending habits (w/ slight revisions) Nelle Canta
"New spending habits"
Have you noticed that when you earn more you tend to spend more? I have known a lot of Supervisors and Managers who spend their salaries the moment they received it. They spend first before they save. There are a lot executives who are surprisingly, have no savings and investments at all, and worst, drowning in their credit card debts. This is because of lack of discipline and self-control.
There are a lot of financial gurus who have been lecturing the best financial practices so we could spend less and save more. The ultimate formula that I have learned is: Save first before you spend and always set aside the 20% of what you earn for savings and investment.
Budgeting is also very important so you could monitor your income inflow and outflow. It's good if you track all your expenses, even the P10 quek-quek that you always buy from Aling Nena's Bbq stand. By tracking all your expenses, and review your monthly expenditure, you will analyze your habitual spending on unnecessary things. If ever there comes a time that you got short of budget, or an emergency situation occurs, you will know which item to forego.
I also believe that we should "live within our means". If we only have P2,000 until the next pay day, we should live with the P2000 and budget it for the remaining days. We should also learn how to say no in unplanned gimmicks, peer pressure, unnecessary purchases and sales in the mall. The sales events in the malls are really tempting especially if the items are on sale. But these are all traps. If you always buy things that are not needs, and most of the times are wants, it will ruin your budget. We really have to master the art of self control and discipline.
Saving doesn't mean that you are depriving yourself on buying the things that you want. Saving and investing will give you more money in the long run, which in effect will give you more income to spend on the things that you want. Always bear in mind that the ultimate formula is Income – savings and investment = money to spend and splurge.
By mastering this, you can save religiously and avoid being "bankrupt". I started saving and investing. I now buy my wants with my passive income. 3

NU12#11 Serendipity walk by Nelle Canta
Serendipity walk
Times Village, a street in Las Pinas where you can find Perpetual Hospital, Perpetual Highschool and College, and nearby businesses such as car showrooms, culinary schools and so on. This high traffic area would be a perfect place to put up small businesses.
Summer is officially here. The temperature is soaring and we can now feel the extreme hotness. To beat the heat, here are some business opportunities that I thought of:
1. Ice pops machine
2. Scramble
3. Iskul Buco
4. Ice cream sandwich
5. Local Mochiko
6. Halo Halo
7. Iced fruits
8. Fried ice cream
9. Fruit shakes
10. Milk tea shakes 3

NU12#3 - New business idea - Nelle Canta
New business idea "LASER HAIR REMOVAL ON EYEBROWS"
Excess hairs are a woman's enemy. Hair on the armpits, hair on the upper lip, hair on legs, at the back, sometimes they have all their hairs waxed. Of course not the crowning glory.
I have just noticed that a lot of cosmetic and beauty clinics offer laser hair removal services for almost every part of the body while there is no service for the stray hairs in our eyebrows. I have asked about 2 attending assistants in a beauty clinic already, and they cannot answer my question why they do not offer laser hair removal for messy eyebrows.
If this can be dangerous because it's very near the eyes, perhaps the Lasik would never be created. Instead of plucking your eyebrows every week, it would be cost efficient and more convenient to have the stray hairs removed permanently. 3 <hygienic issue?
NU12#2 New business idea - Nelle Canta
New business idea: "CAR BACK HORN"
In driving a manual transmission vehicle, they say that you can be called a real driver once you mastered hanging, backing and parking. The most challenging part here for me was handling a "hanging situation", especially when the car at my back doesn't leave enough space for me to move, just in case my balance with the clutch and gas fails.
This happened to me when I had just learned how to drive. I was about to cross a road, and the road had a small slope. The traffic enforcer signalled me to stop, so I have to press on the brake pads. When he signalled me to go, I tried mixing the gas and clutch so I could redeem that balance, move forward and not let the engine die. I was in panic mode since the car at my back didn't give me enough space to move. I wasn't able to balance it so my engine died, and my car moved backward. It hit the car at my back, which left some few, minor dents. If I only have a car horn at the back, I could have at least gave a warning signal to that car.
Car back horns would be very helpful in hanging situations. This cannot only be helpful and useful for new drivers but also serves as a safety device. Imagine parking in a busy street, and you need to leave that parking space. When backing, even if you use the car's horn, the people that pass by the back of your car, won't mind or won't notice that you are giving them a warning signal to keep out of your way. You can run over a cat, a dog, or worse, a little kid.
A back car horn should be created by car manufacturers for safety. It would be even better if we can put lights that can be flashed to tailgaters and those who put their headlights at the brightest level which can totally hurt your eyes, and can also cause accidents.
Another idea is there is a message that you can flash at the back, in a LED light. Examples are the following:
- Please move away, car is moving backwards.
- Your headlights are too bright
- Please keep your distance, "hanging mode".
- I can't go faster, speed limit is at 100kph only.
In this way, we can clearly communicate with the cars at the back.
NU12#6 What pisses you off in the mall? - Nelle Canta
"WHAT PISSES YOU OFF IN THE MALL"The 3-day sales in SM Malls are really tempting. I used to be super excited to run to the mall and be the first one to check on the sale items. However, the increasing population makes the shops look like there is a stampede going on. People just keep on entering the shops even if it's very packed already. I hate it more when people keeps on pushing you to move forward and not even say excuse me or say sorry when they have stepped on my foot.Loud music during sales events is also irritating. They can catch the attention of the people but the music should not be almost on the highest level which can make your eardrums shake.Another observation is the shop managers should establish a queuing system like a batch of 12 persons which will be given maximum of 20 minutes to look around and shop. Every shopper who will be finished earlier than the prescribed 20 minutes allotment can be replaced by a new shopper. With this system, the shoppers will have convenience in shopping and can avoid the massive crowd which causes hassle. Some shops are already doing this, but I have only noticed this in shops like Lacoste and Havaianas.Another thing that pisses me off is the little availability of clean restrooms. SM malls have fewer restrooms compared to Ayala malls. They should have a restroom for every alley or every strip. I think the malls should set a standard on the proximity of restrooms. And there should be a standard in the sanitation of the restrooms. Some of the restrooms do not have the trash can inside the urinal cubicle. Malls should have a budget for these trashcans since it is not that costly. In parking, malls should follow SM's parking system in MOA and Southmall. It is very hard to look for a parking space especially if the parking space is very vast. The light parking space indicator is very helpful as it shows you where the available spaces are, and the taken ones. Green light means available while red light means it's occupied. Whoever invented the green and red light parking space locator is a genius. 3
