NU IDEA #12 - free range chicken by AJG

NU IDEA #12            Social Entrepreneurship: Free Range Chickens

What's becoming popular nowadays to the can afford community is prefering free range chicken as their use for chicken meals. Free range is where you leave the chickens range freely for food, rather than confined in an enclosure. The Benefits of this method of raising chicken is that the produce is chicken meat that has more protein, more good fat and less bad fat, and there is no risk of unnecessary antibiotic consumption. Using this product in mind, It came to me that it can actually work on a smaller scale and community wide operations. By building a company and capitalizing on the community to produce the free range chicken that can be sold for a price.

To make the business concept more simple, here is how it goes on a step by step basis:

1.)    Educate the target community on raising free range chickens
2.)    Provide seed money(or start up chickens) for the community.
3.)    Let the community grow the chickens for you to lessen on the operating expenses.
4.)    Buy the free range chickens produced by the community.
5.)    Package the product (Work on a very good USP that entails helping the community for a healthier choice)
6.)    Distribute and retail to various supper markets
7.)    Allot profit for the company and the partner community
a.       With excess money we can provide for feedings programs for the community.
b.      Scholarship grants for basic education
c.       Medical and dental Missions
8.)    Continue with the cycle and you have yourself a sustainable, money generating social program that can help alleviate poverty in a community 4

NU IDEA #11 by AJG Conditional Cash Transfer Program

NU IDEA #11            My Take on CONDITIONAL CASH TRANSFER PROGRAM (PNOY's PPPP)

This program has been copied from brazil, and true enough, through the news and as my research resulted, it worked in alleviating poverty in their country. This is Pnoy's program that has been running already for quite some time right after he seated as the Head of our Country.

So what happens in this program? The poorest of the poor that is with family and children are given allowances by the government, in return they should oblige on making sure that the pregnant would complete her maternal check up, the new born will be screened and vaccinated, the children will enrol in the public education system. This actually makes sense since what the government is trying to do is to provide room for growth and development to its constituents by assuring their basic physical need.

On personally, as I see it, the program lacks something in the end. It can only assure until the child graduates from basic education, what worries me is that even after graduating high-school, the chances of being an asset to the country is still very slim. As stated in my previous New Ideas, in a community that we are living in now, it shouldn't stop on education alone. My Idea is this, it may sound a socialist or communist but in order to raise the quality of living of the marginalized people we should be able to set the direction for themselves already, only a few has the actual capacity to go on a separate and better path such as the scholars and talented individuals.

Here's my idea for Pnoy's PPPP, the requirement should go further up to vocational education that can give them qualifications to be employed already. A program requirement that is tied up with TESDA that would be able to give grants to the selected families, in this way, the program ends with providing a means of living to the beneficiaries. 4

NU IDEA #10 by AJG - CSR

NU IDEA #10            Big Corporations and their CSR – Is it worth it?

Large corporations nowadays would always be found helping the poorest of the poor when it comes to their CSR programs. I'm not an anti-poor individual here but as I see it, helping a big number of the marginalized people will not help make a big difference in a community. My Ideal principle in helping the community Is to help first those who are easily capable of development so by the time they are able already, they can be of help to your cause of community development.

Feeding programs, relief, housing, and one time grants can reach hundreds and thousands of people but can only make up for a day, a month or two, but helping a few, empower them to help others, as I believe, can bring about capable individuals of making a difference. Instead of feeding programs, put up scholarship grants for the middle class and help them put up their own businesses and grow as professionals in the corporate industry. Big corporations and also the government always see only the less fortunate and neglect the fact that the middle class is in trouble as well. Grow the middle class, increase the potential for community development through their empowerment. 4

NU IDEA #9 by AJG VVIP parties

NU IDEA #9  The Yacht Party: VIP – VVIP status

A Friend of mine was talking about some events that we want to launch one day and this is what came up, A yacht party that would only cater to the VVIP and VIP. For one thing that we know about a rich Filipinos is they always want to show of with their same crowd And the perks of exclusivity for the rich and famous. The very purpose of this event is not to gain profit but to widen the network of our companies to the most elite.

We rent a big enough yacht to accommodate hundreds of people, attendees will only be by invite to promote exclusivity of the event. The key to this event for it to be successful and to draw a crowd is to make sure that there is at least a group of people of the really elite group that everyone wants to acquaint them with. We wouldn't mind partnering we different corporations, again, the purpose here is to get as many connections we can get in order to explore the possibilities of doing business. 3

NU IDEA #8 by AJG - Bachelor's Pad in a warehouse

NU IDEA #8  A Warehouse house (a Bachelor's Ideal placed)

I was thinking of investments one day and thought of building a house of my own, but since I don't have anyone to settle with yet it seemed that it would be impractical for me. But then it hit me, I'd still go for getting a place of my own but it would be a warehouse type of house.

I hope everyone can get how I'm describing this one, a big space with no dividers, and only a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the whole interior, A warehouse. Imagine an enclose space with no deviders, the sala in one corner, kitchen and dining on the other. It can be described as a very nice Bachelor's Pad. But what makes it very practical is that in time that I don't intend to live in the place anymore since it may not be a good idea to bring a family in the place, you can easily convert it to an office space or as it is, a warehouse that is a good requirement for business. 4

NU IDEA #7 by AJ Guinto - a Company code book

NU IDEA #7  Family Corporation: What should've been done before everything else.

I grew up with my family managing a then 20 year old institution that was passed on by my grandfather to my parents. It was easy for my grandfather who to choose in managing the institution since it was only my dad that stayed in this country and all our relatives had already migrated abroad. And now, since my brother focused on taking the corporate lifestyle, it was easy for my dad to designate me to manage the institution next. During this months that had turned into years that operations of the institution is being passed on to me, I can't help but read books and some articles regarding family owned corporations. Their pros and cons and how it should be handled. From my own experience, and for some articles that I have read I can conclude some things that are important in starting a family corporation, especially when the plan is to make it really big.

1.)    Code of Ethics
a.       This is very important in any organization, but I need to stress out on this one. Since growing as family means everyone is comfortable with each other, but doing business should be treated very differently. A mere tardiness and absence should be taken seriously and should be addressed right away.
2.)    A rule on who to pass on the management
a.       May it be the traditional way like the Chinese people where the first born son will take over the company or to any culture that gives it to the youngest, the point here is, it should be stated, it should be made known to everyone. Ideally for me, it should be given to the person who is most qualified, otherwise, running a business to ruins doesn't benefit anyone in the family in the long run.
3.)    The Patriarch/ Matriarch
a.       There should always be that one person that would decide on the next move of the company, and everyone else should support his or her decision even if they disagree. Because at the end of the day, it is everyone's business.

These are only some of the things in my mind, there could be more but that would entail writing a whole book. 3

NU IDEA #6 by AJ Guinto changes in in MBA program

NU IDEA #6 AGSB: Of Employee and Businessmen

I graduated without a degree that's even related to Business, but since I was hands-on with the family corporation it was easy for me to grasps the concept being thought in class with MBA. And this I have noticed with all other classmates of mine that are acquainted with their family businesses as well. I take that those who have experience in running  a business or grew up with a family running a business has a broader mind in coming up with solutions that will make the company bigger since their perception will always be as the owner of the company. But this doesn't degrade the level of the employees in the class, when it comes to detail per detail in running a company in a micro-scale, I have noticed that these are the guys that excel. My point here is, I think there should be a different approach in class when teaching business owners and business employees/executives. Especially in the foundations of Business Administration, Business owners should be oriented more on not just looking always at the big pictures but to also learn how to go down in their level in order to see the issues in detail, but not sacrificing the macro scale of the business of course. And same with employees taking MBA, they should be directed to think as if they own the company, think outside the confines of any department and think of any business as if they can do whatever with it for it to prosper.

In a nutshell, 2 programs, one for employees, one for business owners, and possibly only on the last subjects of the whole MBA program that they can only be in one class since by then they have the same perspective in arriving with a solution. 3

NU IDEA #4 by AJ Guinto - communication skills training

NU IDEA #4  On Skilled Labourers and their Education.

Being in the Education industry and at least having friends in the construction businesses and real estate development, I became curious about the skilled labourers that we have here in the country. How did they become skilled? Why aren't they going anywhere in life to succeed? Then I questioned their background in education and found out that most of these people are High-school graduates and barely some reached College but didn't even get to finish it. Went on my research and found out that TESDA actually offers this kind of programs with construction and development. But even with that program, I think there should be a tweak on it. Here's my Idea, instead of training Skilled Labourers, train them to be Skilled "Professionals" in order to give the better opportunities in this country and abroad.

What is thought in TESDA schools are purely skills, sure they have allotted a number of hours that concentrates on communication skills and other basic subjects, but realistically speaking, this is not what's happening, and you simply can't expect a person to be good in communication skills in a matter of three months.  This what I have in mind when I said a skilled "professional", the treatment of Vocational Schools should also give importance on basic training such as communication and leadership improvement, allotting more hours and ensuring more competent trainers in this matters. The Skill is what gives them the opportunity to work here and abroad, but it's the communication and leadership development skills that gives them to opportunity to move forward afterwards.3
