4. New Processes at Work / Study
professionalism – new work, methods,
practices
4. New processes at work , study
                Currently,
one of our processes at work is to manually apply/process the employee's
corporate credit card in XXX Bank system after their online application form
has been approved in XXX Company online tool. What I want to suggest as a new
process is the automatic creation of the employee's corporate card once the
application has been approved online, thus, eliminating the manual intervention
of our group to cut the processing time in 3-5 banking days rather than the
current set up of 7-10 business days.
The current process today goes something like this: employee applies for a
corporate credit card via online tool. (XXX Company system made internally and
can be accessed only via intranet) This application form will be routed to the
respective approver who has proper authority to approve issuance of corporate
credit card. Once approval is made via the online tool as well, it is routed to
our group who manually process the application with the affiliated XXX Bank
System. The manual processing usually takes 1-2 business days. Once processed
successfully, the corporate card will be created and delivered to the employee
within the next 3-10 business days depending on the mode of delivery chosen at
the beginning.
With the new process in mind, we will totally eliminate manual intervention by the
our "group" and will have the XXX Company's system get linked to the XXX Bank
system in order to automatically process any approved online corporate card
application form and have it delivered within 3-5 business days. If the XXX
Company was able to internally create an online system for corporate card
application, the more that they can easily linked their system with the XXX
Bank's system.
This new process will eliminate usual errors of misspelled name or other personal
information which happened during the manual intervention of our "group". This
process also cuts the creation and delivery of the corporate card in half, from
maximum of 10 days to maximum of 5 days. Most especially, the time consumed by
our group in manually processing the application will be used in much more
important tasks like Account Reconciliation and Reporting. (Company and Bank's name is kept
Confidential)   3
9. What pisses you off at the
neighborhood? What do you suggest?
What pisses me off at our neighborhood is the lack of functioning traffic lights at
the intersection of Quirino Highway and Tandang Sora Avenue (considering this
is a major highway) which usually results in heavy traffic during rush hours.

My suggestion with the local government of QC or the DPWH whichever is responsible,
is to install working traffic lights with timers just like the one installed in
EDSA corner Ayala Avenue. What is unique with this is I suggest that the
traffic lights be controlled by a system which can detect which lane should
have the GO signal because of higher volume of vehicles.
How are we going to do this?
There will be weight measuring device that will be installed in each lane that can
determine the weight it currently bears. The heavier lane means the number of
vehicles on queue is bigger than others and that it needs to be dispersed to
avoid further build up, thus, this lane should have the GO signal first. When
it becomes lighter and the other lane gets heavier, then the signal light
changes respectively.
If this will be put into action, then we will never encounter heavy flow of
traffic during rush hours. No one will be late in going to school or office and
no one will miss having dinner with the whole family. 4

10. What pisses you off in your office
/ What do you think must be done?
What pisses me off in the office is the slow response of the facility management
group of the building wherein we are currently located regarding some repairs in
the office which is under their jurisdiction. Apparently, I have learned that
our comfort room's fixtures and entrance doors are maintained by the said
group.
With regard to the comfort rooms, it is annoying to learn that they can never
install "bidets" in each cubicle because of the current set up of the toilets'
pipes. We were informed that they have to change the pipes as well in order to
set it up. To add to that, there are no faucets available in each cubicle, so
you have to literally bring your own "dipper" with you inside when nature calls.
What must be done with this and I suggest that since our office prioritize
safety at work at all cause including employee's health, they must redo the
whole comfort room set up to accommodate "bidets" or have faucets installed in each
cubicle for hygiene purposes.

Moreover, there came a time that one of the 2 main entrance/exit doors was broken, thus,
when your workstation is located on the side of the broken door, you have to
literally tour the whole floor to get to your destination, and it is quite
frustrating to learn that it usually takes them a week or more to fix one door
because of the slow response from a manual report. Perhaps my suggestion is an
online system that detects the conditions of all main doors in the office
whether it is operational or needs some repair. With this, the facility
management group will not have to wait for a written report from their tenants
to address their concerns. They can easily detect which needs repair at the
earliest possible time. I think this is feasible since they have installed CCTV
cameras on each floor and installing an alarm type or detector won't hurt their
budget. 3

NU 12 - Jaypee Eugenio (5 New Products/Improvements) (3 Professionalism New Work, Methods, Practices)

5. New products / product improvements  <fare collector in jeepneys>
Today, I would rather commute than drive my car because I find it more convenient and safe since I'm working at night and would not want to drive sleepy going home plus with my extra-curricular activities at hand, I'd rather sleep and relax while traveling than be stressed out driving along the always busy EDSA and nearby highways.
I do ride cabs, bus, light and metro rail transits, FX, and the most popular of all and tagged as the King of the Road the Jeepneys. However, I find it quite annoying at times when you are seated near the driver or at any "hotspot" as I call it, to be obligated by other passengers to reach for their payments and to give back their change if there's any without even hearing a simple Thank You or acknowledging your noble gesture. It's not of a big deal for me not to hear their Thank you, but there are times that some passengers act as if it is your responsibility to do such, since you are seated next to the driver and it really pisses me off. Good thing, I learn how to control my emotions and get over those "bossy" passengers.<avoid sitting there>
With this in mind, I am thinking of a mechanical hand or box-type machine that can go to and from the driver seat up to the last passenger at the end of the jeepney to receive their payments and give out their change if necessary. The mechanical hand or basket can be operated by the driver from the buttons located on his steering wheel. It will then be easier for him to receive their payments and safer since his eyes will still be fixed on the road.
Moreover, we can have a box-type machine that can accept coins and automatically disperse change if needed. (just like vendo machine) The passengers can simply push the button of their location from the selection found on the control panel then drop the coins or insert paper bills and the machine will provide change. This also works just like the hand or basket that it is attached on the jeepneys roof and automatically controlled by the driver from his steering wheel. Though the box-type can be too costly to produce since you need to set up the program to correctly accept money or provide change, the first option is more feasible today.
Having this on our new jeepneys is a step towards a much easier way of paying your fare. Perhaps in the future, reloadable cards like in Hong Kong which they use to pay for their transportation will also be made available for Filipinos.  4

3. Professionalism – new work, methods, practices
In the office, we do not maintain log sheets, Bundy clocks, or attendance sheet to record the employees' time in and time out. The company has complete trust with their employees to come to work on time. However, it is not happening across all business units. Perhaps those who caters North America processes have developed within themselves proper time management and the value of deadline to deliver results, but unfortunately, others handling other regions still practice the bad habit called "Filipino Time" and this is the practice that I would like to be changed forever.
Filipino time is something that we should not be proud of. This is one of the not so good images we have shown our friends around the world that we do not value time and we should change this perception. However, it is very hard to change a habit especially if almost all people around you are doing the same thing. This will also not be just a change in habit but also a change in behavior and character. Everything has to start from within.
We need to understand the value of time especially in dealing with other members of the organization. We need to properly manage our activities in the office and set up meetings with allowance or buffer to ensure you will not be coming in late if something has to be extended. Moreover, we need to learn how and when to say no instead of giving them false hope and this is one way of managing our activities to ensure time is met.
This is not relatively new in the office setting, but I believe there are pretty much new ways and practices on how to develop this behavior of coming to work on time all the time. Perhaps, give recognitions <be specific please> to those who come in ahead and on time to motivate everyone to follow that lead. Provide incentives for those who met the deadlines and coach those who did not so that everyone will be on the same page next time.
In our team specifically, we started with an online timesheet just to practice ourselves to some on time and pretty much it worked out wonders in each members of our group. Now, we are able to accomplish our duties and tasks on time without rendering overtime work because everyone is coming in on their work schedule and every process is accomplished the right way.
We cannot change a habit overnight, but with constant practice and motivation from other members of the organization, we can achieve to eliminate the bad perception of "Filipino Time".<no grade>

NU12 - Jaypee Eugenio - What pisses you off at the school and new business idea

Ateneo Innovation and Entrepreneurship "New ideas create more and better new products and services; create more wealth."

6. New business ideas <tea.coffee shops with photostudio>

Nowadays, coffee shops or TEA shops are very popular hangout places for friends who want or needs to catch up on each other or simply for those who want to have a lone time reading their favorite book or playing their favorite video game. Moreover, this has also been the new place where family gathers after a very sumptuous lunch or dinner.

On the other hand, with the advent of digital technology, smart phones and its applications, we can see a lot of people in social networking sites posting their favorite pictures taken anywhere they may be. From the first shot taken in the morning up to the last photo before bed time, you see how people became very much into photography.

Looking at this, I am thinking of putting up a business incorporating both ideas. A concept of coffee shop with digital studio that is open for customers to have their photos taken at any time. Yes, smart phones, SLR cameras, digital cameras can do the trick but photos taken in a professional studio with proper lights and settings is something very much worth keeping.

Since both ideas are very popular to the youth, why not put them together to satisfy both of their wants, a very delicious cup of hot or iced coffee enjoyed with the company of their friends in a professional studio where memories can be captured and treasured for years to come.
This shop will have professional baristas to create their favorite coffee or tea and at the same time professional photographers to capture the moments worth remembering. The shop will look like an industrial warehouse with different backdrops or for digital effect the popular green cloth. Customers can just simply enjoy their coffee on a couch or at the same time have their photos taken with the company of their family and friends with a theme of their choice. Isn’t it amazing?4

11. What pisses you off at the school? What must be done?

What pisses me off at AGSB particularly in the Dela Costa campus is that students are not allowed to stay in the classroom before their usual 6PM class because it is locked up and apparently, the employees authorize to open the classroom will come from the main Rockwell campus.

There came a time that I, together with my group mates need to set up the room for our report. We prepared everything at home and have agreed to meet up in the campus at around 4PM only to find out that our classroom will not be opened 15 minutes before 6PM. We have requested if we can be accommodated since we need to set up something for our report, but we were informed that the authorize representatives with the keys to the classroom will be coming from Rockwell and will not be arriving anytime soon. To avoid frustration and take away our focus in our report, we just agreed to stay in the hallway as we prepare everything in order to set it up as fast as we could once the door has been opened.

What should be done with this is that the keys should at least be left in Dela Costa campus to accommodate instances wherein students need to prepare or set up something for their report or presentation. Moreover, they should at least assign the job of classroom safekeeping to employees in Dela Costa and not those in Rockwell, or if this may be the case, at least allow these employees to come in Dela Costa as early as 3PM to ensure that students will be accommodated as necessary.

Good thing is that our group is an all star cast and still was able to put up a very well presented report. <we can request the SG to open earlier say 5) 3

NU 12 by Jaypee Eugenio

Ateneo Innovation and Entrepreneurship "New ideas create more and better new products and services; create more wealth."

Good Day Prof. Jorge,

Appreciate feedback at your earliest conveniece regarding my first 2 NU12 below based on the guide questions you have provided in the sysllabus.

2. New spending habits / routine

Well, for the past 6 years that I have been working professionally, I must say that I have also spent all my hard earned money at the same time. But I am happy that I was able to buy everything I wanted to have and everything I wanted to give my loved ones plus enjoyed travelling to places on my wish list. However, it had dawned to me a year ago that it's about time I should not think about the present alone and start looking forward to the future since I am not getting any younger.

Looking at my spending habits, I realized that most of it was spent on my perfume collections, shoes, clothes, and of course gadgets that I tend to replace every year or whenever a new one is available in the market.       Moreover, with the advent of online shopping and group buying discount websites, more were spent last year that perhaps made me bit more than I could chew.

Therefore, for my new spending habits, I will make it a point to distract myself whenever I am about to visit an online shopping website and will instead think of my piggy bank at home. I will only buy the things I need and not just those I want. Will try to sell those things I am no longer using and add that to my current savings. I will save a portion of my earnings first before thinking of spending the same; instead whatever is left from my apportioned savings is the only amount I should spend. This is very different on my way of thinking that whatever is left after spending on all my wants and not just needs is my savings. With this in mind, hopefully I will be able to save for my future family. 3

8. What pisses you off at the mall? What do you suggest?

Whenever I visit Trinoma Mall from their access door beside MRT North Avenue Station, it pisses me to see a long queue in the mall entrance because of the "so called" inspection being conducted by the mall security guards to the bags and belongings of the mall goers. Well in fact, upon observation is that they just merely point their "magic wands" inside your bag/s as if it can detect whatever it is you bring inside. Isn't it mediocre for them that they always shout they're just doing their jobs well in fact they just merely acting that they do. I am very willing to subject myself in falling in line for minutes if I can see that they are really doing their jobs and scrutinizing everything inside the bag of the person getting inside their mall/department store.
Moreover, I can't see the reason why there is a separate security inspection for Landmark and Trinoma wherein they only share the same building? Will the customer buy "bombs" inside landmark and bring it inside Trinoma or vice versa? It would be good as added security if they are really doing the things that should be done in an inspection and not just acting with their "magic wands" and pointing inside our bags.
I would suggest that the management of Trinoma and all other malls nationwide to invest on similar X-Ray machines being used in our airports today. This might cost them a fortune but this will definitely make it easier for their security guards to check what's inside the bags of their customers and will cut the inspection time in half thereby reducing the length of customers on queue or during slack periods will totally eliminate people waiting in line to get inside. This will also satisfy their customers need of a secure shopping mall wherein they can have a relax time with family and friends. 3 (It is expensive)
