Cigarette Smoke Eliminator

Ever since, I am not a fan of cigarettes. I don't like how I always become a victim of second-hand smoking. They even say that second-hand smoking brings worse effects to non-smokers than to those who smoke themselves. I used to have asthma and luckily, I got rid of it when I was younger. I would not like to take the risk of developing it back again. I have nothing against the persons who do smoke though since I have friends since college who do. I just hope that people know how to handle smoking. But I want a product which I can carry with me that can eliminate the smoke I might encounter and can take in in public places. I know there are these electronics cigarettes in the market already that do not secrete smoke but a lot still stick to the usual cigars. I am thinking of something like a puff but it does the inverse. Instead of puffing out something, it absorbs the smoke around you. It has to be something handy and can be used easily and subtly. It should be easy to use in a way that once you press it, the smoke is taken in and subtle in a way that you do not need to bring it up high for everyone to see as it detects the smoke around effortlessly. With this, people like me who hate how we cannot convince others not to smoke anymore, can still get to hang out with them. I think that a product like this can also be of help to the worsening pollution problem of the country. As we all know, too much air pollution is a health risk so at least this can alleviate the probability of being too sick of the smoke belching issues and the like, as well.     4

New Process – Digitized Bank Forms
The establishment of credit facilities with the purpose of additional working capital for corporate client entails proper loan documentation. There are two types of sets of documents that need to be executed in order to facilitate clearance to avail against the credit lines. These are the loan documents and the availment documents. The former are the ones that are prepared by the Legal and Documentation group prior to issuance of clearance that states the terms and conditions which are binding and valid. These include the Credit Line Agreement, Continuing Surety Agreement, for lines that are secured by the suretyship of the principals of the company; the Real Estate Mortgage, for lines that are secured by real properties which are also to be annotated by the Registry of Deeds. Others are the Board Resolution or Secretary's Certificate which is to be executed by the company authorizing signatories to borrow against the line established by the Bank, the specimen signature cards and the Letter Advice that enlightens the client of the details and terms of the credit lines. The availment documents, on the other hand are those that are accomplished after the issuance of clearance, which means that the credit facilities are already in place and all pertinent documents are submitted by client. These comprise Promissory Notes, Letter of Credit Application, Agreement to Issue Bank Guaranty and Standby Letter of Credit and the like.
I could say that the documentation process is a bottleneck in the loan processing. The bank still uses hard copies on which we would type in the details of the corporation such as the corporate name, address, name of signatories, purpose and term of the loan, the details of government issued valid IDs of the signatories for notarial purposes and many other things. I find it very time-consuming to type the said details for every document, to think that each document requires 5 copies at the least and carbon papers are just not very appealing or neat. Moreover, typing is susceptible to errors and errors are congruent to the hassle of having the documents countersigned or wasted. I would like to suggest a database that would complement the digitized forms that are to be developed wherein all company details are already in the system. Once we search for the company, all details would just appear and it would automatically be fed in the selected documents as required in the loan facilitation. The digitized forms shall be in a protected format so the Bank is secured as to the terms and conditions stated therein since we can also have the option to forward these digitized forms to clients via email to eliminate the wasted time of transmitting the documents. That is one advantage because the availability of motorized messengers is also a factor in the delivery of documents. At least, once the documents are sent to client, they could countercheck the details, verify and they could print the documents themselves. Afterwhich, the forms shall be ready for transmittal to the bank. It is noted though that the signatures of the authorized signatories shall remain to be original on all copies still. The digitized forms are also helpful to the Legal group of our corporate clients because they could right then and there review the terms laid down by the Bank where they could easily give feedback by sending it back to us via email as well.  2

New Business Idea

The heat of the summer can really get in the nerves of a lot of people nowadays. But I can say that being at the beach does not at all aggravate people's annoyance of the very humid air as the view, experience and being away from the busy city ably compensates the damp feeling. That was what actually surprised me during a recent trip in Palawan with the whole family. I usually am not a fan of the beach because I do not like being under the sun for too long. However, the beautiful island of Palawan managed to make a shift in my preferences. That summer escapade with my loved ones was truly a relaxing and memorable event of our year.

With all the activities and fun we had in Puerto Princesa, I have now thought of a summer business that can bring more convenience to tourists like us. First is sort of a locker room or nipa hut by the beach where people can leave their valuables. Usually, during vacations, there always is that one person who has to be left behind to look after the group's stuff or they had to take turns in staying in the area where their things are. I am looking at something like the gym lockers wherein individuals would just rent a cubbyhole with lock and they could just bring and pin their keys with them while swimming. With that, people do not need to worry about the safety of their valuables. An alternative to that is they can rent out a nipa box with lock which they can bring out in the shore if they prefer their things to be within reach and without the need to crowd with other people in the locker room. To manage it, the boxes will have their respective numbers as to the keys and everything has to be returned by the end of the day. The storage box when left by the shore should have a hook or something heavy at the bottom that can be shoved in the sand so it would not be easy for any stranger to just take it away.

Just a little addition which I thought of while snorkeling is that the snorkel mask can be made with a small comb at the side because being under water for a very long time can mess up one's crowning glory. Hence, it would be much easier if there is a ready comb to use before picture taking. Another thing, during spelunking, an activity similar to rock climbing, I can offer a product called a storage belt. Tied around the waist, this belt can accommodate cellphone, camera, money, mirror, etc. What's going to be new in this product is it is made of plastic and is surely sealed so that there would be no worries if a person goes straight to the beach right after land activities due to too much excitement. Well, that is all for my summer paraphernalia. 4

What pisses you off in your office/What do you think must be done?

There is nothing much to be pissed off in the office but only the shallow things like the parking area. My office is located in Makati, a 10-floor building in Legaspi Village. The basement parking areas are allocated only to the senior officers who rarely go in the Makati head office since most of the time, they report to the Bank's Ortigas Head Office. I just thought that the parking spaces are not properly utilized and the security guards do not just allow other employees to use the spaces eventhough they know for sure that no one is going to consider the space. If one is to see the parking floors, they are often vacant. What must be done is at some time, the security administration should consider allowing the utilization of these parking spaces to other employees who regularly goes in the Makati office. I suggest that they provide the employees parking cards so they could monitor the usage of the parking spaces. If they cannot allow others, other than the senior officers, to park in the basement for five days in a row, they may give consideration for two or three days in a week. The parking card I am thinking about shall give an orderly process as to who are allowed to park at a certain day since the parking slots are limited. In effect, this card will permit regular employees to take turns in utilizing the parking spaces. I do not mind though if the parking card requires payment but I presume that the fee shall be much lower than the parking areas in the vicinity considering that we are employees utilizing and enjoying the Bank's property. The card can be reloadable so there can be straight access and it would not take time to pay and get tickets anymore. Hence, there's no need to hire additional manpower to check the tickets and fees as the card can easily be swiped at the entrance.  3

New process at work

I am part of the Commercial Banking Group wherein we deal with top corporate clients. We package credit facilities, or what is commonly known as corporate loans based on the needs of the clients, whether they are importers or exporters. Afterwhich, we do prepare credit proposals to be presented to and approved by the Credit Committee and the Executive Committee, respectively. Managing corporate accounts entail financial analysis of the Financial Statements of the companies. In doing so, I prepare the spreadsheets of the submitted Audited and Interim FS with the use of MS Excel and analyze the Profitability, Liquidity and Efficiency of the accounts.

Different corporations have different entries in their books as dictated by the nature of their businesses thus the spreadsheets have to be revised for each corporation that has to be analyzed. I realized that the editing of the excel file to fit the character of the company is already taking much time. So that's what made me think of a system that would allow the user to encode the figures only in the entries that are related to a particular company. In this system would be a list of all accounting entries, whether the company pertains to service or manufacturing, and it gives out the flexibility that the only ones to be filled up are only those relevant to the books of the corporation. Just like the excel file, the system shall present at least the three-year performance of the company. I think that this will also lessen the occurrence of errors as there would be no more editing in terms of adding and deleting accounting entries. Also, I noticed that the movements of figures in cells are prone to errors as links in various computations may shift. With the use of the system, we can be more confident in inputting the data since everything is already listed and the end-result will just come out once the figures encoded are verified as balanced. Moreover, I believe that this will save more time in counterchecking as well as in determining the accuracy of the data. Furthermore, I would suggest that the system is open to adjustments of accounting entries such that "Due to/from Affiliates" and "Advances from Officers" can easily be classified as part of Equity instead of Liabilities for better analysis of the financial position. What I am pointing at is in the process of doing financial analysis, there should be more time allotted in analyzing rather than preparing the spreadsheets. I believe that this will improve the working process of the employees hence having more outcome due to time saved and efficiency. 4

What pisses you off at the mall? What do you suggest?

I definitely love going to the malls. I would even start with my school works ahead of time so I could have some time to shop and stroll in the mall without having any guilt feelings or worries. Being out in the mall, shoppers are all hyped up and at any instant may feel hunger hence the unending food choices. Behind all the food are leftovers and junk. So, being at times an obsessive compulsive, I always want everything to be neat and in order. Whenever I get something to munch while walking around the mall and once I finished it, I cannot seem to find any trash bin to throw my litter in immediately. I just noticed that there are very few trash bins around the malls and a shopper may have to walk much farther, usually beside the escalators, just to get to the nearest one. And what I hate is the part that I have to keep the litter in my bag or in my pocket first until I see a trash can.

What I thought about is a trash can that is more presentable than the usual ones so establishments would not hesitate having one in front of or near their stores. Something stainless and something that can be mounted on the wall or beside their glass doors is what I have in mind. I am picturing something that appears to complement the exterior of the scanner at the entrance of the establishments so it would not look awkward. Maybe it may look like the stainless tissue holders found in the hotel comfort rooms. Even if it is only a trash bin, it has to look good enough. With this, not only is the hassle to the shoppers lessened but also the consequence of littering around the malls. It is always appealing to stroll and shop without eyeing any mess, even the small ones. Moreover, this shall teach the people to be more orderly and disciplined when it comes to cleanliness. 3

Product Development

One afternoon as I was munching a chocolate cookie while doing schoolwork in front of my laptop, I suddenly thought that I wanted an icing or a cream on top of it. Cupcakes are usually the ones which are decorated with colorful icings and cookies are simply the flat ones which are baked with nuts or raisins. Since I am a fan of sweets, I want to come up with a cookie product instead of a cupcake this time that is not too messy to carry around especially during travels. I am thinking of a plain cookie that is sold with various choices of dips or creams.

I am sure that we are all aware of Auntie Anne's pretzels which give us the option to choose among different dips and flavors. It is pretty much similar to the said product but I want to make this cookie more convenient to eat around in the malls, in the cars and even while working. Moreover, this product shall be sold in groceries instead, packaged in a resealable plastic. Since people with sweet tooth often want to have variations, the three cookies packed in a plastic shall come with three flavors as well. This can be chocolate crème, strawberry crème and oatmeal or orange dip.  The creams and dips shall be packaged in separate tubes so it would not clutter when garnished on the plain cookies. I thought of hard cookies instead of cupcakes because it is easier to hold on bare hand and there are fewer crumbs hence it suits well when one is in the work area, in front of the computer or while working on important documents as well as during tours. Further, it is more convenient and more fun for little kids to eat even by themselves. They may also have the option to mix and match the different flavors of creams for each cookie.

I have also noticed that packed cookies being sold today in the grocery stores are packaged per flavor. I have not seen one pack of cookies that carries different flavors, it is always all chocolate or all strawberry or all orange. So, to provide alternatives and to set a better mood in munching even during busy hours, I would want to have a product such as this.   4.0

Journal of what new opportunities the student saw at work or personal life, cases or readings. The focus is opportunities and innovation.

Spending is undeniably a part of life and there can be various issues that come with it. For so long a time, credit cards have become a necessity for some to improve their consumption capabilities. The existence of credit cards eases the spending of not only the needs but also the wants of people. Personally, I do not depend on credit spending. I do not have my own credit card as I chose to have it cancelled few years back. However, I was made a supplementary cardholder of my father's and I get to use it only for fuel consumptions at times.

I have been in the banking industry for five years now and I know of various cash management products that provide innovation to the way people spend. However, it is just recently that I decided to apply for a debit card. I have always preferred cash out rather than monitoring credit card dues. I just realized that it is more convenient to carry just one card instead of cash and there would be no added expenses anyway as there will be no interest charges and my annual fees are waived, being an employee of the bank. Nevertheless, despite the convenience it offers, my concern pertains to the tracking of the account balance. I think that consumers will be more appreciative of the debit cards if there is a device that is readily available for consumers to purchase and is handy in order to know immediately their balances. In consideration to the frequent usage of debit cards, monitoring of account balances may become tedious for most consumers. There are even instances when stores or groceries erroneously debit the account twice and it usually takes a month for the bank to credit back the funds. What I am thinking is, in cases when double debits occur, there should be a device as well for stores that reverts back the balance without delay after proper confirmation with the bank so as not to hassle the costumer too much. The store might have the responsibility to coordinate with the bank in such circumstances but as we are looking on innovation, it would be much better to make things easier for consumers.

All the same, spending entails discipline and knowing the right way to track one's expenditures. But innovation is at all times expected to make people's lives easier and more convenient. Hence, a device or a system connected to a consumer's mobile phone or computer can definitely help to allow organization in monitoring. This system can be subscribed in by customers just like prepaid e-loads or autoloads so they could have easy access to their accounts anywhere. As to the side of the stores and groceries, making available to consumers the electronic payment transactions, there should also be an alternative device or a "trouble shoot" system which is within reach for a more efficient practice of commerce.

This seems good:   what would the device or system be?    3.
