In the Philippines, there used to be huge maternal and infant deaths because many could not afford hospital deliveries. Thanks to birthing centers, lying in centers run by midwives, There are l4 birthing centers in Pangasinan: 4 in Dagupan, 4 in Mangaldan, 3 in Binmaley, l@ in Laoac, Pozorrubio, and Binalonan. There are 300 such birthing centers in the country, under the auspices of Population Services Philippines Inc., a non governmental organization engaged in reproductive health services.
