MICRO-DIRECT POSITIONING SYSTEM (MDPS)

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a system which is widely used nowadays especially in almost every mobile phones and even cars to track their directions to their destinations. Google Map and Google Earth use GPS to scale areas across the globe in 2D or even 3D view, including descriptions, of the roads, different establishments, etc.

The author imagined if this GPS can also be applicable in a much smaller scale. Have you ever experienced being frustrated looking for your missing things inside your house or car when you need it most? Have you ever experienced roaming around a large mall, let us say SM Mall of Asia, looking back and forth for a certain establishment, spending so much time, only to find out that it was just around the corner just because you are not familiar with the place even you seek the help of a mall directory? Being the boss, have you ever felt the need of tracing the whereabouts of your sales, marketing and delivery personnel, etc. in the field even they are submitting sales or service reports?

With all of these in mind, the author thought of a system that can address the said concerns. The author would name it as Micro-Direct Positioning System (MDPS), a system which is quite similar to GPS, however, instead of using satellites revolving around the earth, this system will use tracking devices installed to triangulate and know the specific position or location of certain things, person, establishments, etc.

The MDPS will use microchip that can be placed virtually anywhere and anything which can be traced by the tracking devices. This system can also be in the form of applications installed on mobile phones.

MDPS may be used on the following:

1. School

• In Harry Potter movie, they use the Marauders Map for them to know where to go and who is coming. This inspires the author to actually think of this new idea.
• The microchip can be embedded in the school ID that must be worn inside the school premise at all times.
• The MDPS in schools can be used by the Administration to track the whereabouts of the students. Hence, some violations by students may be avoided like cutting classes. The system can also be used in tracking and locating the whereabouts of the school personnel and instructors.
• The students can also use the system on locating their rooms and other school facilities by using the applications installed on their mobile phones. This will be very useful especially during the first day of classes and the student is not yet familiar on the school premises.
• The system can be used in the libraries, wherein the microchip will be embedded in every book or reference material so the user can locate the specific shelf and location of the needed book or reference material.

2. Mall

• Just like with the application of MDPS in school, mall goers can locate in an instant by using their mobile phones the establishments or store they need to go.
• The system can also be used as a directory in which the user can know the details/description of different establishment such as the products and services they offer, promos, prices of their products, etc.
• Mall goers can also track available slots on the parking area using the MDPS.

3. Office

• The microchip can be embedded in the company ID that must be worn inside the office premise at all times.
• The MDPS in offices can be used by the Managers to track the whereabouts of the personnel especially those who are on the field like sales, marketing and delivery personnel.
• The system may also be used to track the office tools like stapler, puncher, etc. to avoid spending so much time looking for it when you needed it, which is commonly happening in an office set-up.

4. Theme Park/Coliseum

• The system can be used as directory for theme park. You will know exactly where you are standing upon using this system.
• Just like with the other applications, this system can also be used in a coliseum in which you will know the location of your seat even without the assistance of the coliseum staff.

5. House/Car

• MDPS may be used to track the things inside our homes or cars which are commonly misplaced like remote controls, eyeglasses, keys, etc. Wow 4 (di ba overkill- cost benefit)

The applications of MDPS can be considered limitless. The system is perceived the best tracking system of all time.
