New Idea on How to Detect Prosthetic, Joint Replacement Infection

The Ateneo Graduate School of Business Advantage

A number of things happens with hip and prosthetic implants:   leaching of the metal to the body causing toxic reaction, and infection that may occur from the bacteria on the implant or the procedure.  And the procedure (which is expensive) can fail.  The reconstruction may be more expensive than the original procedure.

In the procedures (about 70,000 are done in the US annually) about l5 to 25% infection occur.  There has to be a better way of detecting the infection.

Abbott is involved in a research project for the early rapid detection of the infection using PLEX-ID technology (originally used in bio terrorism attack detection)

I remember such outstanding MBA health students involved in this type of procedure:   Drs. Jofet Syquia, and Rene Catan.  Dr Catan holds several patents on prosthesis and other implants.
