MY NEW TEAM
By: Teodorico T. Lasin
The Research and Development (R&D) department of Ginebra San Miguel, Inc. (GSMI) is responsible for the development and improvement of products, processes and packaging for both alcoholic and non alcoholic products. In order to fulfill the key objective of the department, R&D has the following critical objectives: (a) product development and improvement; (b) process development and improvement; (c) packaging development and improvement and (d) material evaluation. The R&D team plays an important role in the innovation process which is increasingly vital to current and future profits of GSMI. It results in the technology that brings new products and services to the market place, better goods and services and more efficient processes.
The GSMI-R&D team consists of seventeen (17) highly qualified, trained, competent and proficient chemists, chemical engineers and food technologists with me as the team leader/manager. It is my responsibility to ensure that team's key objectives are met while the R&D personnel/staff are fully satisfied, contented and happy with what they are doing.
In my seventeen (17) years with GSMI, working minimum of 8 hours a day and 5 days a week; our lives revolve around the four corners of the R&D laboratory. We want to add spice by incorporating non-work related activities to our daily work. This new idea led me to facilitate a survey among the R&D personnel what activities we want to do after office hours. Results of the survey as follows:
With the above survey results, starting January 2012, team R&D will incorporate identified non-work related activities in our routine jobs. The team firmly believes that doing these additional activities will not only make us happy, satisfied and manage our stress but build unity and trust in relationships among the members of the R&D team.
Relationship is made stronger by building bridges and avoiding acts that build walls.
Looking forward to a new R&D team in 2012. 4
