NU 12 by Carmina Tionloc - ebooks syllabus, soft copies

Nu Idea No. 8: Ebooks for MBA materials like syllabus, readings, case studies, etc.

Every new term opens, each student is given a syllabus for the subject that they have enrolled in. Oftentimes, the professor also has readings and case studies that need to be printed or photocopied. But at the end of the term, these papers just end up in the trash or as scratch papers that the students can use in their homes. This is such a waste of paper.

By introducing ebooks or soft copies of the materials would lessen paper usage and at the same time, let the students carry the readings easily to school. They may put these in their smart phones, laptops, ipads, and even ipods. The professor may also opt to use the existing system of Blackboard. This way, the student would just need an internet access and his username and password to automatically access the readings in his or her own Blackboard account. This saves time, money, and paper and at the same time, it has the same effect on students. The students still get to read the required materials for class and it can be accessed wherever they are at any given time. This also introduces efficiency for the class since no student may have an excuse as for them not having a copy of the reading material. Utilizing the current systems that we have and by introducing soft copies of readings would greatly help the environment (by using less paper) and at the same time, more accessibility for students. 3 <many professors have ebooks, there are also students who want printed syllabus>
