NU 12 by Carmina Tionloc - Front Liner access to trading information

Nu Idea No. 11: Office Laptops Connected to Bloomberg Terminals

I work for an investment firm and being a front-liner, clients would usually ask for their portfolio standings (or in our company, we call it portfolio valuations). Portfolio Valuations are a client’s account’s summary. It details the investments that they currently have – bonds, stocks, time deposits, etc.

Usually, the client would want fresh information and that would mean that it should be based on the current day. Portfolio Valuations can be retrieved from the Bloomberg computers but of course, only traders have access to these terminals and oftentimes, it is hard to use the Bloomberg terminals since the traders also use these terminals for their work and daily trades.

With this, I suggest that front-liners have access to Bloomberg via their own laptops. This way, we do not have to disturb the traders but at the same time, we would have access to client’s accounts and its summaries. We would also be able to look at current market trends, foreign currency rates vs the peso and we would also see indices performances. This way, we would not be totally reliant on the traders for information regarding these matters.

This would greatly improve the working cycles in the office since front-liners would be able to do their jobs more efficiently and it would save time from going to the Bloomberg terminals and disturbing the traders.3
