EV's idea of fighting fire with fire in his NU6 (countermeasures vs a noisy neighborhood) was clearly demonstrated at Discovery Channel's episode this morning for mythbuster. The idea is how to fight fire with fire.
We snuff out the candle light by blowing on the flame right? In this method of firefighting, high explosive is blasted right next to the source of flame to snuff it out, ie, to deprive the fire of oxygen. Plausible? True. A live video demo showed the methodology to work. It is effective vs well fire, and other difficult to put out fires that can not be handled by water or even chemical agents.
This method is not used of course where a pail of water, of fire extinguisher can do the job.
