Why is 3d printing becoming extremely popular?  It has become affordable and is becoming a very useful tool for repairing and making new products and objects.  This was formerly reserved for the industrial R and D.  Now you can design your product 3D overnight , yourself, without outsourcing it to expensive 3rd party research labs.

It is easier to manipulate a prototype than from a mere mock up.  3d printing is quick;  mock up takes a lot of time and may not be pretty to look at.   A 3 d printer can make a bridge or a building or car scale model quickly

Some popular companies in the 3d business:   Market bot and form labs are enjoying healthy sales and profit.
