The monorail would connect to a train station being built by All Aboard Florida. The monorail project "is too important to the region's economy to be scuttled," according to Frank Kruppenbacher, the airport's chairman. Some major airlines oppose the move. Orlando Sentinel (Fla.) This "marks a critical step towards beginning the long-needed cleanup of toxic land," said a spokesman for the city's Economic Development Corp. Key to the start of the cleanup is special approval to build an uncovered parking lot. The project will consist of 2,500 apartments, hotels, a mall, office buildings, a school and open space, and is expected to create an estimated 12,000 construction jobs for union members.
