NU12 #1 - New attitude / paradigm: The Book Reading Challenge (Arlo Cristobal)
People
are losing interest in books. To bring them back to reading, we can
invent a program that blocks the entire computer and devices with a
short quiz about the current book you are reading. You can only access
your devices once you get the correct answers. This would force the user
to read at least the required chapter for the day. It can be slow at
first and can be adjusted based on the user's preference. It can also be
limited to programs and websites and not the entire computer since it's
a vital tool for our everyday activities. This kind of software can
also be used in different target goals such as saving money or keeping
an exercise routine.
To
save money, for example, the software can be set to be "bought" but the
money would really go to a savings account. Technology today has
amazing potential and has boundless applications. All that is needed is
your imagination and a bit of hard work to learn how to code. Let Sir
Sagunsin be the example. He was able to assemble an interactive and
content-rich blog without formal background in web development. 3.5
NU12 #2 - New spending habits / routine: Online Banking Redesigned (Arlo Cristobal)
Most
online banking systems already allow multiple savings account enrolled
under your name. For an improved spending habit, you can set your salary
to be divided among several accounts based on your target savings. For
example, your account will consist of your spending account, savings
account, travel funds and utilities fund. Once your salary comes in, it
will be divided to these accounts based on your preference. To add, you
can also have your spending account locked for withdrawal except for
your set daily budget, sort of like a daily allowance. If you want a big
miscellaneous purchase, you would have to save your "daily allowance"
to afford it. You can also add a fixed emergency account that is
automatically deducted from your spending account. This way, you will
always have an emergency budget that is forcibly taken from your
expenses.
This
technology already exists and can easily be accessed by anyone with an
online bank account. This is a new idea that simply makes use of
existing technology by taking advantage of its capabilities.4
NU12 #5 - New products / product improvements: Pee Detector (Arlo Cristobal)
Pee detector – a colorless liquid that turns blue when exposed to urine. Can be used for toilets and for cleaning pet urine. This
product can be used as spray and can be mixed with a disinfectant. The
blue dye can be designed to fade after a few seconds of being sprayed.
The
problem with existing toilet disinfectants is not knowing wether or not
the seat has really been cleaned. This product will continue to turn
blue until the seat had been completely sanitized. It might not appeal
to some since they might find it gross. But would you rather risk
sitting in a toilet smudged with dry pee?
Another
application of this product would be in dog pee. Training a dog to pee
outside can be very challenging. When it's still a puppy, you must clean
every spot in the house that has its pee so that it won't be able to
track the scent and pee on the same spot. With the spray, you can pin
point exactly where the pee is located and clean it accordingly. 4
