Self healing protective coating for concrete
Ateneo Innovation and Entrepreneurship
"New ideas create more and better new products and services; create more wealth."
From Phys Org | February 20, 2013
A new form of self healing protective coating has been developed a team of South Korean scientists led by Chan- Moon chung. Protecting the concrete exposed to changing temperature, sun, rain and snow has been a major challenge. Microcracks develop as concrete are exposed to the elements.
The coating contains microcapsules that crack as concrete develops microcracks releasing the healing agent. The healing agent is solidified by the sunlight (polymer?) (as the catalyst). This is a self healing, environmental friendly, catalyst free concrete micro crack protector
