Microscope for iPhone 4s
Ateneo Innovation and Entrepreneurship
"New ideas create more and better new products and services; create more wealth."
From Digital Journal by Eko Armunanto | March 14, 2013
An iPhone 4s could be converted into a microscope to detect worm infection in rural Tanzania. All it take is ball lens worth $8 dollars, double sided tape and a torch. The idea was tested by Dr. Isaac Bogoch from Toronto General Hospital. He read about the smartphone microscopes being tested and decided to try this at island of Pemba in Tanzania.
Image quality can be improved. But the device could be important tool in diagnosing the parasite infection as means of treatment is widely available. Such microscopes for iPhones are available online for price under $30.00 capable of 60x Magnification
Similar ideas have been proposed in MBAH 10B for diagnostics.
